About

It was a really nice evening. It was all delicious. Medium spice in Dutch style was enough spice for us. Much more would be too much. :D Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

🇮🇳 Visiting Zaanse Kathmandu Kitchen is beyond a culinary experience but a memorable activity to do when in Amsterdam. ✍️ Especially since they are featured in Gault&Millau and Thuisbezorgd’s 2023 restaurant nominations and Tripadvisor’s Traveler’s Choice list. They offer a delightful fusion of Indian and Nepalese flavors in a charming historical setting. 🏠 Its proximity to Amsterdam makes it an ideal addition to your itinerary when visiting Zaandam and the windmills, allowing you to explore the rich history of “De Waakzaamheid” - the oldest wooden catering building in The Netherlands. 👨🏽‍🍳 Led by the skilled hands of Chef Khem Sapkota, the menu boasts a tempting array of authentic dishes. The chef’s expertise in using genuine herbs and spices elevates each dish. We chose the 3-course menu and loved it! 🧡The attentive service enhanced our enjoyment, while the interior, adorned with beautiful elements from Indian and Nepali culture, created a warm and inviting atmosphere. Historical fragments inside such as ancient Dutch tiles and old coins discovered added a fascinating touch. Honestly don’t understand how this restaurant is highly rated. Food delivery took 90+ minutes. Asked for Chicken Tikka Masala but received butter chicken. Mixed vegetable curry is so sad looking that I can’t reconcile paying 15.5 euros for it. Maybe I am the unfortunate one who has gotten bad food from this restaurant while everyone else lucked out. Absolutely yummy and authentic Nepali and Indian food served with unmatched hospitality. The rich history of the restaurant building is the cherry on the top. Works perfectly for a romantic date or family dine out. I will surely visit again. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Naan
Go for the Nepali dishes and you will not be disappointed - the dal bhaat and Tandoori mix platter were both great, as were the breads (naan and roti). The restaurant oozes old world charm with the wonderful painted tiles, wooden furnishing and tasteful "Desi" decor elements. I had the pleasure of dining at this fine establishment, and I wholeheartedly recommend going here. Upon entering the owner offered to take our coats and when we left they were brought back to us even though we could have fetched them ourselves. The food itself was really delicious right from the starter to the dessert. As a starter, I had the deep fried cauliflower, which for me was the first time, but definitely not the last. Main course was daal bhat, which consisted of a variety of small bowls meaning you got to taste a bunch of different thing. Finally, the dessert was the traditional ice-cream kulfi served with chopped nuts. We were the last to leave for the night, and the owner came up to our table and started chatting with us regarding our experience at the restaurant and some extra information and anecdotes about the menu. The restaurant is set in an old wooden house, which combined with the interior gives a warm and cozy feeling. All around, we felt very welcome and if we one day go to Zaandam again, we will definitely return to this restaurant as well.

Kathmandu Kitchen is an authentic tour through south Central Asia / India sub continental cuisine. From naan with a a Peshwari twist, to butter curry style fish - to veg dishes that pull spices from north to south & warm the soul. The crown jewel - from a culinary perspective - is the meat. The chicken was DELICIOUS - but… the lamb. Next level. What binds all of this awesomeness together - and distinguishes it to receive 5 stars - is the service. On a busy 2de kerstdag (boxing day) evening - the front of house (all family it seemed) didn’t miss a beat. Kind, fun, engaging & respectful (in terms of not being “too much”). We have ordered delivery from Kathmandu Kitchen several times before - so glad we chose to reserve a table tonight. Next level. Thanks. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person €60–70

Perfect!!! Amazing food, staff, ambiance! Why anyone would place this with low ratings is absurd! Not spicy unless you want it to be. Best Indian food we have had in Europe so far. Not excessive portions. Perfect!
There are not too many Indian restaurants in this region, and I have tried most, but this restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Relatively simple menu and with all the dishes you expect. However, sometimes there may be alternative versions available, which are not listed! So ask and let yourselves be surprised. Loved the lassis too. Regarding some other reviews: I have notified Google. Obviously all most all 1 star reviews are fake and a conflict of interest. The 1 star reviewers only review 2 restaurants. This one (1 star) and another Indian restaurant (5 stars). So sad so pathetic! this restaurant is obviously a victim of a lot of fake reviews. I hope Google takes action. Please don’t mind those fake 1 str reviews and pay attention to the real (and detailed) reviews. Recommended!!!
