Absolutely delicious meal here tonight. Steak and chicken meals we’re beautifully done. Great spot with views to the lake. Staff were excellent, friendly, attentive and efficient. We went there for a family lunch on a rainy January day. Staff were extremely friendly and polite. We had two young children and the staff brought out a couple of pictures and some colouring pencils to keep them entertained. Food was served very efficiently and nice and fresh. Had Garlic Bread and Korean Fried chicken as starters. Both were really tasty. I had the mussels as a main. It was really well made and the sauce complemented the mussels extremely well. A couple of people at the table ordered the Nachos (both said they tasted great). There was also a kids fish and chips and kids nuggets and fries ordered. Both kids devoured their meals. All the meal portions were generous and everyone at the table was more than content after their meal. Waterside also has a great drinks selection (both alcoholic and non alcoholic). I stuck with the chocolate milkshake which would rival any high end ice cream shops milkshake. Was presently surprised at the patronage in the restaurant on a rainy weekday at lunch time which added a great atmosphere and made the fast friendly service even more impressive. All in all for four adult meals, two children's meal combos and a round of drinks the total bill was around $180 which I thought was very reasonable. Thank you to all the staff at Waterside Taupo. Lunch outside on a gorgeous sunny day. Our server was very courteous and friendly. We enjoyed the views of the lake and the passing parade. I had a steak sandwich and a beer. Food was okay. Reason for four star is somehow the karage chicken is different from the usual other karage chickens I tried before. Also, did not expect that the garlic bread would come looking dry and that you are the one who would put the garlic spread on it, which makes the butter not really melt into the bread. Chose this restaurant to eat my last meal of the year, looking at the premises, location and prices were expecting some very good quality food but it was totally the opposite, got a glass of wine very poor served that you could even see the foam on the glass, and the fish of the day tasted like burn and you can even see the dark bunt crumbles all over the dish. Beautiful location with a vibrant atmosphere. Had been told that Waterside had such a well established menu and that the seafood platter is a "must order". The staff were friendly and very attentive. We also booked in advance for an outside table as the weather was really nice, but was unfortunately seated indoors. In terms of the food, the seafood platter was a tad lackluster. When it was delivered to our table, the plates did seem quite empty and we realized that we had been missing our fresh oysters. But this was easily fixed by the staff when it was brought to their attention - thank you. The portion sizes didn't quite match the pricetag so I was a little disappointed. I heard great things about the mussels and it was nice. The calamari was soggy and the fritters were inconsistent in their sizing. The prawn and scallop skewers could also do with a flavor boost. I did also really enjoy the bread with the various dips and sauces. We did come as a big group and some of the table did like their individual meals, so I do think(hope) that this may have been a one-off situation.🤞 The cocktails were priced really well in comparison to other restaurants so that was a definite plus! ⭐ Either way, if I were to return, I would likely not order the seafood platter again. This is a perfect location to have lunch especially on a warm and sunny day. Location is right infront of the lake and has nice ambience. Staff are friendly and helpful - accommodated all our simple requests. The food - it was fantastic! The servings was big and flavourful. The freakshake is a must when dining in. We (8ppl) dined here 31/12/23 We ordered a variety of dishes entree/nibbles/meals/desserts Service was exceptional by waitresses Food was average for what you pay for Timing wasn’t great either, 7 meals came out and eaten before the 8th came out, so was sent back $16 Apple crumble was disappointing, diced apples in a ramekin with crumbled up biscuit on top with a small scoop of ice cream I would have sent this back if my Partner didn’t offer to eat it 1. The food was incredibly disappointing. The lasagna was tasteless, gloopy and seemed like it had come out of the microwave. The lamb ragu was slightly better but still quite average, we could not finish it. Service very average.
