Since 2015 this is our 4th time in NZ, and every time it was a must to visit The Boat Shed Cafe. And it is still one of the best restaurants for us. The food is fantastic and the service super. We had this time two delicious dinner. Once the thrust the chef menu and once a la cart. Both were fantastic. This combined with a beautiful sunset = awesome!! Had dinner here last night and it really was amazing everything. We left the meal to the chef and had the chef’s choice - our waiter recommended wines with each course which were all spot on. The whole experience on a perfect Nelson summer evening basically as good as it gets. Thank you The Boat Shed for making this a very memorable birthday meal. We’ll definitely be back. View wasn’t bad either !! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $100+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
We had a wonderful meal at the Boat Shed Cafe. The restaurant is on stilts and so we were seated at a table directly above the sea. We had the 'trust the chef' menu. All courses were superb and there was a varied choice of wine I particularly enjoyed the oysters and the market fish. We had the Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc which was excellent. The staff were friendly and fun and all the food was top quality. I would go to this restaurant frequently, but unfortunately I live 11000 miles away. The Boat shed is a great location for a meal. Get there early or make a reservation to sit out on the covered deck. The food is delicious. I highly recommend going with the chief’s choice if you d not been here before. They have a nice section of wine. The only downside is that parking can be tricky. Called in for lunch while passing through Nelson, what a stunning location over looking the bay. We shared the Baked Mussel's and some Whitebait, found the Sichuan chilli oil was over powering with the mussel's and the whitebait a little tasteless. First time in Nelson and this was the first restaurant we tried because of the good reviews. The hospitality of the staff was top notch. The lady who greeted us was so friendly and welcoming. I personally don't like seafood, so I may be slightly biased, but for those who do, this place has a lot of fresh seafood options on the menu. I did, however, find their focaccia and seaweed butter very interesting. The bread was fluffy and soft, and the seaweed added a bit of umami to the taste. The market fish was snapper and according to my parents, it was extremely fresh, albeit slightly bland. The seafood chowder was incredibly creamy and chock full of fish and other seafood as well as potato chunks. We thought it was a bit on the savoury side though. My favourite was the goat cheese croquettes. It was so perfectly fried, the outside was so crispy and the inside simply melted in my mouth; it was like eating bits of crunchy, savoury, creamy clouds. The honey drizzled over the cheese was also a great pairing, the flavours really worked together. The view was also amazing, we could look out to the ocean from pretty much any angle in the dining space. Overall a pleasant experience, I would recommend those who love seafood to try this place out. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $40–50 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

One of the best places in Nelson. Good food amazing location. Have been here a dozen times, recommend trusting the chef which gets you a bunch of dishes that are the best of what the kitchen offers that day. A lot of local produce. Good sea food and generally well above average service. Definitely recommend for business dinners with visitors or romantic dinners. Not as good a fit in my mind for families.. Though possible I'm sure. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
The food was SO PHENOMENAL I’m writing a review less than an hour after leaving! The food was absolutely amazing! Great portions - leaving full but not grossly full. It was amazing watching the chefs cook - they did such an amazing job considering the restaurant was fully packed - they didn’t even look like they were flustered! We had the scampi and clams as starters followed by the market fish and steak + potato gratin. Would defiantly recommend to book as the place was full not long after we sat down at 6.30pm
