The star is the classic. The good ol days of smoking indoors is what comes with this, a place of peace for smokers. A good ol’ tradition thanks to the smokers room where the smokers can enjoy a good beer and smoke without freezing in the Kihikihi cold nights. Please dont change. These things are what are going extinct

When growing up, this bar was always considered a rough, low life type of place so this is the first time I've been in here. It has new owners so hopefully they'll make some improvements. Definitely it needs to be modernized, both inside and out, drastically. The staff were very friendly and the locals we saw in there seemed okay, not the questionable bike gang types that it was famous for in the old days. So based on my first experience I would go in there again but at present it would not be my first choice of a place to go for a social drink with my friends. It has a super large backyard that could be transformed into a lovely beer garden with a stage for some good country band to entertain (hopefully not a kids playground).
Definitely not a date not spot but it’s a good pub if you want a quick drink.
No real food menu mainly just drinks. Has a small area out the back for drinks and a gaming lounge.
An old heritage building which is all too easy to drive past. If it is food you are wanting, you will be disappointed - only bar snacks are sold. There is however an awesome bakers (Viands) - also a fish and chip shop (Radars) both about 1-200 metres away - both well worth a visit if you're in need of a good nosebag.
Upon visiting the Star Tavern you can be assured of a warm welcome from Viv the landlady and Lucinda - also other locals using this hostelry are equally friendly, and if like me you are partial to a good drop of the Waikato draught beer. well look no further. I certainly enjoyed all my visits to this pub.
