Nice, clean and family friendly setup. Beer collection is great but room for improvement when it comes to food. Veg pizza was underwhelming. Olives, mushrooms, basil, onions, capsicum were missing instead we got Pumpkin and beetroot on a pizza and hardly in curry on Madras Chicken rice making it a very dry dish. Hence beer and drinks menu has been a highlight for us. Price per person $30–40 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

Ordered the seafood chowder.. embarrassing…. It’s a seafood maggi mix with no seafood, there’s no flavour. It’s watery and didn’t even clean the mussels before the were chopped them into 4 pieces. So the wiskas are still in there.. seriously.. worst chowder I’ve seen ever.. no fish, no prawns, no nothing.. onion and 4 pieces of mussels and 3 whole mussels in a white water broth.. no thank you… I’ve been told the chef is leaving in September, explains why they’ve checked out already.. maybe come here in October…. Outside of the food though.. lovely people and really lovely to chat to. Price per person $20–30 Food: 1 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 2
Worst customer service experience here. Our food got sent to the wrong table twice and then almost again a third time. Was bizarre they either need a proper numbering system or their staff need to pay more attention. Overpriced food and beer, wouldn't reccomend eating or drinking here. The restaurant experience left us with mixed feelings. The food portions were a bit small considering the prices, and some of the steaks arrived cold/raw in the middle, although one steak was returned the others ate cold steak. The fish dish was also on the smaller side, and the lamb shank meals turned out to be chewy. On a positive note, the pork belly and the burger meals were delicious, but unfortunately, there was only one pork belly serving available. The mash spud and vege was yum. During our lunch visit, the squid meal also came in a small portion, and one person ended up sharing half of their partner's food because the portions are so small. Additionally, the waiter provided excellent service. Overall, it's possible that our large group affected the kitchen's performance, as the restaurant wasn't busy. The kids' meals, which arrived early, looked great and were a highlight. However, the adult meals took quite some time to be served, which was a bit frustrating and two adults ended up helping themselves to their child’s food. If you prioritize the food quality or quantity, you might leave somewhat disappointed, but the restaurant does have its merits, particularly when it comes to accommodating families with kids. A bit disappointing really. Came in on a Friday night 810 pm for dinner. Only for the staff too tell us the kitchen is shut for main meals. Only 4 other tables here ??? Come here regularly as we are from Chch. Last drinks at 850pm . ?? lol. Stayed for a few beers and I must say the service from Conner was amazing.

They obviously forgot our order and we ended up waiting an hour to eat, the staff didn’t even apologise for the wait, or offer us a drink, everyone who came in after us ate and left before our meals even came out. After asking 3 times they kept saying it was being ‘plated now’. When the food eventually came out it was terrible, not cooked properly (obviously rushed) ... would never go back! Very immature wait staff, standing around chatting when we entered, looked at us no welcome nothing. Had to ask for cutlery for 2nd course and serviettes etc. Asked for mushroom sauce annnnd red wine jus with my rib-eye, had to remind waiter when food was served and when it arrived it was red wine jus with one sliver of a mushroom. Overall disappointing, feel there's lack of experience, needs more mature staff , or training on customer service, and food service. Price per person $30–40 Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
Large ale house with wood styled decor. Good vibes and really busy so make sure you book. We both ordered the lamb shank, you can get medium or large which means one or two pieces of lamb. One piece was big enough for me and two pieces was a bit much unless maybe you’re starving. Vegetables were great, loved the mash and Kumara potatoes. I did like the lamb but there were a lot of fatty bits that I’ve not experienced anywhere else in NZ. I had a glass of the angus the bull cab sav which went really well.
