About
You can visit this bar after seeing Government Gardens. Nikau specializes in New Zealand cuisine. You are to find perfectly cooked mushrooms, salmon and steaks. Good wine is the best drinks of this place. Come here and order great coffee. This spot is well known for its great service and friendly staff, that is always ready to help you. Some of the guests find prices at this bar to be low. As a number of reviewers notice, the atmosphere is quiet. But many clients who use Google didn't give Nikau a high rating.

It's an inviting warm and cozy restaurant. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable on the menu. Would eat here again as food fresh and tasty. A tasty cocktail started the evening. Amazing service👍 and best ever medium steak I've eaten out in long time👌. Package deal was a three course meal, bubble's and in a private room. Ended up with a 5 course meal ( no extra charges). Felt like we were treated like royals. Everything was beautifully presented both visual and taste and with a smile. Definitely value for money and highly recommended if you are looking for that something extra special in your dinning experience Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
After a full day of sight seeing, we were rather tired so decided to try the restaurant at our hotel. What a pleasant surprise. Admittedly it was a fairly quiet Monday evening, but nevertheless the service was top notch, as was the food. Neither of us were overly hungry, so mostly ordered off the entrée menu, but the portions were more than sufficient. The mushroom barley risotto was delicious, though quite rich. We couldn't finish it so took half it away in a doggie bag for later. Everything was super tasty and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner

Don’t quite understand the reviews for this place, it’s a perfectly serviceable Hotel restaurant. They are a bit understaffed but the staff on duty were very friendly and did the best they could, food was pretty good to. We went on a very busy day and still got served fairly quickly. Atmosphere was warm and inviting. Main benefit was it’s in the hotel so we didn’t need to go anywhere after a long day. Would happily eat at again in the future. Walking into the restaurant I had very high hopes for this place. The atmosphere was good and the place seemed cozy. Walked up to where to the first lady we seen and she kind of ignored us initially then finally sat us at our table in an empty restaurant. We were served drinks and the service from the other waitress was good. We ordered a starter after asking what some of the things were on the menu which I thought was a very thin menu with some random combos of foods 🙄. We ordered some dipping breads which were okay then our mains came out and this was the disappointment. My pork belly was the driest I've ever eaten in my life, you'd think someone off the street had come in and cooked it.. I had the shiraz jus which was tasty but the mash potato that went with it was disgusting aswell. Its not often I don't finish a meal at a restaurant and i only got through half of it. The other meal our table got was a steak and chips with mushroom sauce which the only part cooked right was the steak. The mushroom sauce was gross and the chips were burnt. Very disappointed as had high hopes for this place Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–40 Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
The food was OK, as you would expect from a hotel restaurant and the waitress was nice enough until we got our mains then we were on our own in an empty restaurant. We would have ordered dessert and another drink had the waitresses not been sitting down on their phones waiting for us to leave. Arrived on Thursday night for Easter weekend holiday with family. First night we dine here where was the food was exceptional and service was friendly and top notch. Based on this, we made the decision to dine there again on Good Friday. Unfortunately, it was a different story on our second night. Food was ok but the service was lacking. We made booking at 6:30. Arrived few mins early and seated. The waitress gave us food menu, came back 7mins later and us if we ready to order drinks but there was no drinks menu on table. Ordered drinks arrived 10mins later. Worth the wait for the food but seems like that was the end of service. Had to ask for steak knives, had to ask for salt and pepper. No one came and clear our tables, no one offered us dessert, no one offered us some more drinks. So , the rest of our holiday we will dine somewhere else.

I only had breakfast at Nikau. It was chaotic. Too many guests for the number of tables.
Visited twice during our stay at the Millennium Hotel Rotorua. Smaller refined menu on offer however the options available were extremely tasty and cooked beautifully. There must of been a serious change to the service and food based on other reviews I have read as I am unable to fault anything about our experience dining there. My children both ate their meals in full which is often rare and unseen when the event of visiting a restaurant occurs. Big props to the two wait staff and one chef operating on the days we visited during the week. I do recommend especially if staying at the millenium to give the restaurant on-site a go I don't believe you will be disappointed.
Waited a long time for drinks, ordered a drink from the menu, 20mins later they came back and said it wasn’t in stock, ordered a different drink from the menu another 10mins later they came back to say that wasn’t in stock either and gave me a similar option which I agreed to. After about 30mins they came to take our food order. Once the food came out it was very tasty and I enjoyed my meal, good portion size. Upon paying we wanted to split the bill by paying for the items we ordered individually. However the print out they gave us had many items we didn’t even order and was missing half the stuff we did order. Made it quite hard to work out who was paying for what. Overall experience was pretty average I feel like it could be a very nice restaurant with some adjustments, and training. Decode of the restaurant was quite poor and each member of staff had different uniforms on. Our waiter was very quiet. Nice guy but could definitely do with some training as he didn’t seem very confident at all.
