Great food, quality customer service and affordability all in one. We never regretted coming to this place after our travel from Wellington to Napier. Indeed, our quick stay was pleasant and awesome. Amazing ambience. You’ll learn Indonesian culture and other countries. You feel good about the treatment of the owner. She was on top of everything! This gem is not the first thing that would come to mind for the Art Deco capital of the world but is equally a treasure. Authentic Indonesian food served by friendly caring staff. It’s hard to find decent Indonesian/Malaysian food in New Zealand, especially outside of Auckland/Wellington and for sure this is one of the best in the country. I will be making the effort to dine again during my short Hawke’s Bay visit. As a side note I’ve already had a look at some other reviews. Be mindful that so many unwarranted bad reviews are posted online by angry people with no justification, damaging the reputation of hard working business owners and their staff. The food was fantastic! We shared the fish rijsttafel and a vegan rijsttafel between two of us. There was so much food and great options. I forgot to take before photos and although we cleared every plate and were stuffed! I really recommend any of the rijsttafels although the other food on the adjoining tables looked great too. We tried the mixed vegetable and chicken lumpia; chicken satay and curly prawns as starters. For main meal we had mid aceh fried noodles with chicken, prawn and egg. Really friendly welcome, nice and warm inside on a cold winters night. We had Rijsttafel for 3, it was perfect. And the Spekkoek spiced cake for dessert was great. We'll visit again. Well... I have been to so many Indian, Malasian and Indonesian restaurants over the years and this little place on Napier's waterfront is now top of my list! We feel like we had a quick trip to Indonesia last night! Wonderful unpretentious character, a super-friendly but not overpowering fellow in charge (perhaps the owner?) ushered us in and checked on us throughout the evening. And then ... the food!!! Absolutely delicious - every mouthful❤️ We had the "Rijsttafel" banquet as we couldn't decide between all the delicious things on the menu... so we had the lot😆 And what a treat it was. Awesome Indon food in NZ! My best meal yet! We visited the resto on our first day at Napier (3A2C) and had the Ultimate Rijsttafel and the seafood one, as well as a nasi goreng and an entrée (Soto Ayam). Every dish was impressive with the level of spices (it’s the fragrance of the herbs and spices added, not so much of spicy hot). Kudos to the owners for such effort and service! We had the “rijsttafel” tonight and oh my word, it was absolutely divine, best restaurant meal we’ve had in years! If you don’t know the Indonesian kitchen you must try, if you do know it you will agree with me that this is one of the top kitchens. Our host was very welcoming and he shared insights, loved it.
