About
Portofino Restaurant in Napier is a great place to go for Italian cuisine. The reviews are varied, but overall the restaurant seems to offer a pleasant experience. The menu has a wide variety of wine and pasta choices, as well as some unique offerings like veal and mushrooms. The food is generally of good quality, with some dishes being particularly delicious. The service is friendly and attentive, although it can be a bit slow at times. Prices are reasonable, and the restaurant is conveniently located on Clive Square with views of the square and Municipal Theatre. The only downside seems to be that some dishes can be a bit overcooked or underwhelming. Despite this, Portofino Restaurant is a great spot for a delicious Italian meal.

The service was great, i ordered a carbonara to take away which is $23 i got the food and the container was half full which is ridiculous since i’ve been to 4 other portifino restaurants in nz and the container is always full, i almost forgot to mention i found egg shell in my pasta… yuck Service Take out Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 1 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Visited for a late night dinner, staff were accommodating, prompt and friendly. However, the pizza was well below restaurant standard. Edible, but not at all worth the $25 paid, rather bland with the look and texture of a frozen pizza. Saying that, the menu was large, with many other options. The wine serving was generous and I left with a smile despite the disappointment from the pizza. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 1 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
Visited with husband this evening. Very disappointed with all of our dishes. Shared a bruschetta, which turned up within 30secs of ordering so obviously made in advance. Main meals were served within 5mins of starter…….freshly prepared?i don’t think so! The pasta lacked substance, taste and texture. No depth of flavour, watery & bland. Surprised you can’t hear the microwave pinging from the restaurant! Absolutely no atmosphere in the virtually empty restaurant. Would I come again, no. Would I recommend no. Value for money no, if you’ve paid a dollar you’ve overpaid! Staff were nice and accommodating though, not their fault! Meal type Dinner Price per person $40–50 Food: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Nirvana if pasta and pizza are your thing. My steak, requested to be very rare, was first-class. The starter salad comprising only tomato, basil and mozzarella would have been far more palatable, as well as more authentic, had buffalo mozzarella been used instead something carved off a block of supermarket cheese. Had a really awesome experience here. The waitress was really polite and helpful, the only suggestion I'd make is letting people know they have to pay for the bottle of water at their table. Majority of restaurants give a chilled bottle of water for the table so it was very sneaky of them to charge us $10 for the water. The food was absolutely delicious though, cooked perfectly. Overall a pleasing environment, maybe a tad dark. I'd definitely eat here again.

The seafood risotto was very good, maybe a little heavy/gluggy, but lots of flavour and plenty of seafood... Macaroni Rustoci was disappointing, overcooked macaroni and thin sauce, and the kids meal tenders were rubbish... just pieces of chicken, baked.. no coating, flavoring, breadcrumbs, anything... very bland. My 11 year old flat refused to touch them. Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 3
Great food and awesome experience. Seafood platter dish was about $45ish with decent amounts of fish, scallops, clams, squid rings, mussels and prawns which I thought was good value. Other dish was chicken risotto. Cocktails were reasonably priced and service was good (even for lockdown rules). Restaurant was very clean and the environment had a great feel to it. All in all a very positive experience. The only constructive criticism I would suggest is to print out the customers receipt before they pay but I had the price pre-worked out in my head. Will definitely be back.

So went in not really expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised! I enjoyed there seafood and pasta dishes that absolutely blew me away with the different contrast of flavors from the tomato based seafood platter dish to the light garlic clam dish that was full of fresh seafood that decorated my plate. Hands down the best Italian restaurant I've tried so far. I give it a solid 8/10 would easily get a 9 if it had fresh handmade pasta. Three course meal for two at about $140 is very reasonable for the quality of the dishes. Highly recommended!

Highly recommend this place! It's one of the few restaurants that meets our standards. Staff was attentive and friendly. We enjoyed the nice ambience, menu had a variety of wine and pasta choices and cutlery was clean and glassware was clear (it's one of our pet peeves). We ordered the gnocchi and spaghetti marinara. My partner and I absolutely loved it. He had to pause to nod and say "mmmm" in between bites. We capped the night off with some coffee and tiramisu which was absolutely divine! I wolfed it down before I got to take a picture. Overall, this place offered great value for money, we're more than satisfied.
Been a frequent dinner at Portofino, in Mission Bay, Auckland for the past 16 years. Loved it, so when I moved to Napier naturally I would go there for my Italian food fix. Not sure how good their food is at this restaurant and I guess I’ll never find out, as the service was terrible, waitress was rude and curt, made us feel so uncomfortable, that there was no way we would enjoy a meal here. But I would like to thank them, as I left there and managed to get a seating at Ilona pasta, and what an amazing experience that was, I found my new favourite Italian restaurant. Amazing food and outstanding service. Shame on you Portofino, shame on you. Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
