We arrived in Okinawa on a Friday afternoon, eager to find a place to eat. Unfortunately, most of the restaurants were not open until 5-6pm. However, we stumbled upon a cozy spot where we could remove our shoes and enjoy our first meal in Japan in a tatami setting - Matsuya, being one of the classic chain restaurants in Japan.
The beef slices we ordered were incredibly juicy and bursting with flavor. We seasoned them with the yuzu/citron sauce available at the self-service station. The accompanying Japanese rice and fresh cabbage slices salad provided a refreshing contrast to the rich flavors of the beef. It was the perfect meal to satisfy our hunger during this awkward time between lunch and dinner.
For first-time visitors to Matsuya restaurants, it may take some time to get used to the self-service ordering system. Typically, the ordering stations are located near the entrance. The good news is that they often provide an English option in the menu for tourists, making it easier to place your order. Additionally, Matsuya accepts various electronic payment options like Alipay and WeChat Pay, which is incredibly convenient if you don't have much local currency on hand.
Overall, our experience at Matsuya was a lifesaver during that in-between time when most restaurants were closed. The delicious food, cozy atmosphere, and user-friendly ordering system made it a great choice for our first meal in Japan. Plus, the affordable prices were a pleasant surprise. If you find yourself in a similar situation or simply want to try a popular chain restaurant in Japan, Matsuya is definitely worth considering.

Grilled Beef Set Meal
Dining in you'll get the soup but not for takeouts. It's clean and efficient. You'll need to purchase the tickets from the vending machine which has English menu, so it's rather foreigner friendly. Personally, I prefer this than another kyudon restaurant nearby. For takeouts, the rice and meat are separated, which is a plus.
finally from mainland Matsuya has arrived to okinawa! way better than cocos curry and yoshinoya! only sukiya is comes close! thri amazing curry extra meaty also gyodon is savory. their breakfast is amazing fried eggs, sausage, salmon with gyodon on side! realy hope they succeed here so far is been packed the times i have dine there so locals loving it!

店内いつもキレイで、結構空いてます。
ドライブスルーより、店内の方が待たないと思います。
同じ市内のすき家に比べると、味は濃いけどバリエーションはある。豚汁は松屋がうまいかな。
