Honestly I am not sure which dish is the best to order as a tourist, but the torte and Tamales are very delicious! As a dessert the Machados is surprisingly very very good! The prices are also perfect! You‘d pay much more at different places. The service is also very good and you will see only friendly faces. I really recommend it especially as a 1st time tourist to Mexico 🇲🇽🌮🌯🫔 Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $1–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Roasted Meat Torta

Lowkey spot for authentic quick bites. The horchata was creamy, refreshing and sweet, perfect after a long day in the sun. The tamales were fantastic as well, packed with shredded chicken, the ultimate comfort food. It’s a popular spot with locals, so you know everything’s going to be delicious 😋 Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $1–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

This was the most authentic Mexican spot we went to on our trip! The chicken soup was big enough for two and was so good, with lots of chicken! The tomales were very tasty and moist on bananas leafs. We also got emapanadas, a strawberry smoothie, and watermelon water; all so good! We went on a Friday night and there was live music and a killer vibe. And it’s SO cheap! This is a must try! Don’t be fooled by its hole-in-the-wall look Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $100–200

This little lunch place is great. If you're looking for affordable, tasty, laid back, and a local flavor, this is it. I tried a variety of dishes, and enjoyed them all. I highly recommend the horchata (rice and milk drink with cinnamon), salbute (chicken, avocado, tomato on a flat bread), and empanada con carne molida (beef empanada). This is a repeat spot for me to visit. They're open late too. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch
One of the very few places with authentic food here in playa del carmen. Most of the other places close by are such a rip off with USD prices and terrible food. I definitely recommend going here. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
Well I don't remember the name, but most people had this for dinner so I did the same. The place was full at around 9pm, so that's a sign it must be good. Prices are affordable, food was delicious. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $1–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The place is cozy and not very clean but it’s famous for their local foods. You can try the Salbutes, tamales and Empanadas... the best!!
Excellent traditional place, affordable in every way, definitely recommend.close to the 5a Av. Like 15 min walk
Mouthwatering food. So good I was almost brought to tears. When in playa, my friend and i stayed at an air bnb down the street. We ate here maybe 3 times. It was sooooooooooooo good. It’s helpful if you speak Spanish, or at least Spanglish. But even if you don’t, if you can point to what you want, you’ll generally be ok. I had tamales (wrapped in banana leaf, soo moist but not so moist that the masa fell apart), sopa (after a long day in the sun, was truly what the doctor ordered), and a few random selections off the menu. The only bad thing is that because everything is prepared throughout the day, when it’s gone, it’s gone...one night all I wanted was a tamale, but they were out.
