I do not like seafood normally, but the food was actually very good. The portion sizes vary for each course and some are quite large for one person (the fried fish). The service was amazing, all the staff were very friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself was extremely hot when we were there which didn’t help our mood or appetite for the larger portions. Overall, we wouldn’t go back probably.

Mixed Tartar with Miso Mayo
This was my first time coming to this restaurant and was very disappointed as had very good reviews. I started off with shrimp croquettes and it was so so. It was just very small and lacked some flavour. Then I had the shrimp soup with truffle oil and it was horrible. The soup was very fishy and had a weird unsettling taste to it. Finally I had the fried fish for dinner and it was really bland and had no flavour or seasoning to it. Even though it was a bigger portion it was not good and even with some sauce I had from it, was not great. I did not even want to stay for dessert that’s why and just ended up going to buffet at the resort. Overall would not recommend but would take in what I said and decide if this is the restaurant you want to choose on your all inclusive vacation.

"Overall, my experience at the Frutos del Mar in Akumal was decent. The food was just alright(3.5/5). However, the ambiance, vibe, and music created a pleasant atmosphere, enhancing the dining experience. Moreover, the service was commendable, adding to the overall positive impression of the place. Additionally, the restaurant offers a commendable selection of wines available for purchase, allowing patrons to elevate their meal with a diverse and quality wine menu. It's worth noting that certain menu items, like the lobster and other seafood options, are offered with a charge.
Overall, a 4-star experience (3.5 for the food)

Best meal I have had in Mexico! Excellent service too! Six of us went and one in our group was not a huge fan of seafood AND is gluten intolerant. Staff went to another restaurant to get her roast chicken and gluten free bread; very accommodating. Multiple staff kept us in drinks, cleared dirty dishes and checked in with us. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Fabulous food!!! Just flew back to the UK yesterday and still thinking about my husband and I eating here. Every dish was delicious and beautifully presented. But just as important the service was outstanding! As I have numerous food allergies it can be stressful and disappointing to eat out as it is not always possible to accommodate them. However our wonderful waiter Jovani was so efficient, understanding and genuinely a frienly guy, I can honestly say he made the experience even better. To the team at the Frutos Del Mar, Thank you for an all round amazing and stress free experience! From Sarah and Dale.

I don’t even like fish and seafood so much but this place got me coming back again and again! The food is interesting and delicious, the service lovely and the welcome drink a pleasant surprise. Really enjoyed our meals here and would come back again happily
Overall, a positive experience, but falls a little short of 5 stars.
The complementary cocktails were rather bad, smelling like soap. We ordered alternative ones.
The shrimp-flavoured fried snacks tasted good, but were a bit too oily.
The starters - the mixed tartar with miso mayo, and the coconut shrimp (served on a quarter of a real coconut) were both very good, 5/5; awesome presentation, sophisticated taste.
The soups were not bad, with the stone soup slightly better than the shrimp soup with truffle oil. Fancy serving, with the bowls brought containing the "dry" ingredients, and then the actual soup poured in at the table. 4/5.
Both our main dishes were great.
The chef's special octopus was cooked to perfection, although slightly too charred to my taste.
The sauteed rice with scallops was just right.
5/5.
The desserts turned out a little underwhelming - both literally, in terms of their size, and the taste. Despite their cery sophisticated presentation, the coconut/passion fruit custard, and red fruit, white chocolate and lemon zest tart weren't quite what I expected. 4/5
It was nice seeing the chef and the kitchen at work through the window, very professional.

The food was great, especially the recommendation they made for the desert, some sort of custard/Ice cream made of passion fruit
