This restaurant is a hidden gem that must be visited. It has elevated and completely punctuated the meaning of farm to table , better yet sea to table. We had an amazing experience at freedom cafe. All the food is fresh and based on the daily catch. You get to select your seafood and see how it’s prepared. The owner using the freshest ingredients and really knows how to cook and season his food. Once they saw how interested I was in the cooking process they took their time to explain what they were doing and even let me help make the food. Honestly this restaurant stole my heart and was truly beautiful and unique experience. I really have to commend the owner for creating such fresh beautiful and tasty dishes and for his kindness. You can tell that him and his crew really put their love and soul into the food they create and are proud of the service and meals they provided (rightfully so). This place is been a surprise also if our host suggested us. We have decided to have the launch there while we were on the beach and we have done the right thing. The owner was so cute to suggest us the lobster… absolutely the best I have eaten in the last years. The right spicy and the tasty was excellent. Also the price is absolutely honest. I’m confident that the spiced calamari and grilled mahi mahi on the sea at sunset is going to be a unique and memorable experience. The delicious Smokey flavours of the grill are going to linger in my memory for months. This is a restaurant experience we won’t ever forget. Thanks for the e wine and good times too! Best seafood in Hiriketiya!! This unassuming cafe is a must-visit when in the area. We had the calamari and lobster and they were the best I’ve ever had! So fresh, you can literally see the seafood being caught in the water right in front of you and could not ask for a better setting, sitting right on the beach! We had a plate of calamari with a salad and it was probably the best calamari we’ve ever had! Cooked in Sri Lankan curry spices, delicious. Had a dinner with 8 people there and it was definitely the most amazing fish we got. He served us fresh fish, octopus, calamari’s and lobster. They do catch the fish themselves in the morning while snorkeling. That is a full recommendation! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Hands down the best seafood I’ve eaten in a long time and certainly the best food I’ve had in Sri Lanka! They are so lovely and welcoming! I showed them my translated Coeliac card and they were very accommodating to me being gluten free, even showing me labels to check. If you want really fresh fish or seafood come here. Only several dishes and nothing superfluous. Enjoy your time near the rocks with the sound of waves. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner
