To clear up any misunderstandings. The other pictures here are to old and it is not like that anymore.
I have some years of Sri Lanka experiences. It's not a bar in the traditional sense, but rather a liquor store. In Sri Lanka, alcohol is only available outside of bars and restaurants in such stores licensed by the government.
However, you need to be careful when buying your drinks here. (Usually, you can trust the official liquor stores in Sri Lanka.) A bottle of Lions Beer costs here 700 LKR, while the normal price is 460 LKR. When I pointed this out, he said that the 460 LKR is the price at the liquor store. When I told him he was the liquor store owner, he turned away and ignored me. Tip: The price is printed on the Lions Beer bottles at the neck. Address it, or else tourists will continue to be overcharged.
Otherwise, it's a quaint and cozy shop without much fuss, where you can enjoy your drink among the "real" locals in there Sarongs. You can also get the good Arrack liquor here. Order one in a glass with soda - local style!

I don’t recommend . Their prices are more expensive compared to all the other wine stores we’ve been since we’re in Sri Lanka. When we asked why so much difference they answered “cause we work like a bar “ , so don’t put the wine store sign outside .
Moreover they cheat on tourists, they told us three different prices and we had to remind them the price they said before. When they saw we were disappointed about this behaviour they said they did a special discount to us . Obviously, not true

Lion strong bottle 950LKR to drink in the place. Strange wine store compared to other places and prices.
As there is a high amount of locals I am sure there are two different prices for every drink :) fairplay is not made in Sri Lanka

Was a bit weary of this place after reading dodgy reviews, glad I came in, a large beer is 750 Rs and you get 100Rs back on return of your bootle, plenty of room to sit and watch cricket, friendly staff and half the cost of the trashy European style restaurants that are everywhere, I would highly recommended

Do not support this business because they are cheating on tourists. We live in Sri Lanka so we know the prices here. They sold one bottle of arrack for 4600 but the normal price is around 3200. First we didn't say anything because we thought it is a restaurant price or something but we asked our local friend about the price and he told it was overpriced. We went back the place but they sad no it is the normal price and they acted very strange. Then we went back with our local friend, they first tried to sad they don't know me but at the end they paid back the money and asked sorry. I want to be clear this is not about the money, this is about the principle for don't ruin Sri Lanka reputation. There are a lot of hard working good people here and if one shop behaves like this, it is ruining the good people's reputation too.

Проверяйте цену на товар на упаковке. Все время хотят обмануть и обсчитать туристов! Проверяйте сдачу. Пиво стоит 270р, за 4 банки попросили 1950р. Что-то математика у них по другому работает похоже.

Can't recommend. Stopped by to ask for wine price. The seller said 2600rs (for wine priced 1800 i. e. in Udawalawa). When I came back a bit later, the price was already 3600. When I asked why, the guy told, it is a special offer (!). I decided then to buy beer, and surprise surprise, instead of giving me 4300rs change (from 5k), the seller gave me 3300 Rs. I spotted it on time, so he gave me the missing 1000, but after the rapidly growing wine price, I do not treat this as coincidence.

Late review - don’t be fooled by the location. Ella view restaurant was a highlight of our trip. You have to climb the little stairs to the top and there are only two tables but it is worth it! The owner will cook up a selection of great food and at a reasonable price. Being up high makes it a great spot to people watch and when you’re done you can always pop into the bar downstairs afterwards for a drink

Great little restaurant perched above the bar (you need to climb a narrow staircase to get there). The owner cooks for you in his kitchen next to two tables as you order (and he may need to run to the next store to get an extra coconut or the passionfruit for your juice). The rice and curry is simple and absolutely delicious!
