I am not quite sure how this place got this high rating. In my view, the quality and the taste of the food is not even close to average. I chose this place on our trip to Cozumel because we wanted to try something modest (in terms of luxury) that offers good food. So I picked this place based on the reviews. But it was a huge disappointment. Even the mojito drink was just like water drink with some lime. On top of that, the place is not cheap. We had to change my daughter’s diaper and there was no place to do that. The washroom was disgusting. I don’t mind non-luxury places but this is borderline unacceptable. The 2 guys who served us were nice though. We ordered. 2 meals: octopus and grilled fish. The octopus was less than average, but my wife could eat. The grilled fish was absolute disaster and I couldn’t eat it. It was very clear to me that it was cooked multiple times. It was the first time ever that i don’t eat my plate in a restaurant. I regret not returning the plate from the get go. On top of that, the plates were swimming with oil. I don’t if they think that it is a good thing. But clearly not. At the end when I was paying the bill, the waiter emphasized multiple times that tip is not included. It wasn’t something I appreciated especially with my dissatisfaction with the food. On cruise port call in Cozumel we went looking for something not over touristy and were pleased to find El Mero Mero. At first I was anxious about what to order. But with some help, the specialty of the menu is to choose seafood items. And then the party who ordered breading fried items was not raving about their selections. But… I ordered the Pescado Frito Red Snapper (not breaded) and it was amazing. I also ordered the Sopa de Mariscos which was also amazing. I was wanting to sample. So you should know the red snapper and the soup could each alone be a full meal for one person. I shared with others at the table. Neither was too spicy, but both flavorful. The red snapper had the option of fish size and I chose medium. We also shared a mixed ceviche for the table (no picture). That was good. I felt the waiter was attentive and interested in me having a good experience. Locally owned seafood made with care. We had the garlic octopus finished with a nice char and the Dorado with garlic achiote sauce. Both were excellent. Also started with the conch ceviche with tons of citris and fresh herbs and onions that came with avocado crema and habanero squeeze bottle salsas to taste, so good. We stayed on the island for a week and this was hands down the best meal for the value. Humble atmosphere with genuine hospitality. Only place we went to twice. Highly reccomend if you are looking for an authentic meal with fresh seafood. Stay away of you are looking for fajitas and cheeseburgers. Plenty of tourist places on the port if you are looking for that. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $200–300 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes Garlic Fish

A hidden gem in Cozumel and the BEST food we had during our stay. You can tell they pour their soul into their food. The ceviche is a must have. We tried so many different dishes and everything was fantastic. It's a local joint so nothing fancy about the atmosphere but the food is outstanding. The staff is attentive and the drinks are great. I recommend having cash as we had issues trying to use a card. Try the octopus, breaded fish tacos, coconut shrimp and the fish filet of the day. Would not recommend. Not sure why this place was rated so highly. I gave it a chance, because I wanted to support the locals. Ordered octopus- garlic butter style, it was burnt and chewy. Came with rice and vegetables. Ordered snapper- garlic style, but was small. Pineapple juice - was very good. Total Bill was $40 US, not including tips I don’t feel full at all. It was off putting, when I saw the casher try to low key withhold my credit card when I take it back and as I decide to tip the waiter in cash or peso. Coming from NY, we tip 18-20% but this type of interaction wasn’t good. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $600–700 Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 1

Best octopus we had on this trip. Obviously I got the aji flavor :). It was perfectly cooked. Fried red snapper was good too. 2023 Edit: Yup still good. Had the cabrillo fish which was very tasty. It's the photo with the cut open fish. Octopus is still the best. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $300–400
We loved our food there. I am from the sea and tried a lot of sea food in my life. But octopus and fish we had were cooked perfectly and so delicious. We had a great service too. Thanks a lot! Service Dine in Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Great whole fried fish. Seafood soup was delicious. Cheese quesadillas were very good. Guacamole was tasty. No A/C, only fans. Authentic Mexican restaurants. Lots of locals eating there also. Absolutely the best seafood restaurant on the island. Do not judge this place upon first glance inside. Anything lacking in appearance is completely made up for in their quality food. A hidden gem, set back a few blocks from the pier. This is definitely the best quality, affordable seafood in town. Our waiter was so attentive and sweet, he went above and beyond with his excellent service. This restaurant cannot be missed!
