A beautifully carved tasting menu by Chef Oscar — the love for cooking comes from his mother who was also a chef. An amazing experience showing off food from across Mexico. The impeccable service from Cathy and the outstanding food from Oscar will make your night very special. I am sure the menu changes, but we had lobster, pork, tamales, tacos, shrimp, fish, and much more. Everything was just perfectly cooked in an open kitchen and well explained by Cathy. If you visiting El Cuyo this is a MUST but remember to make a reservation ahead of time, they only have one shared table with 8 seats each night. Cheers!!! The best food experience you can get in Yucatán! This is my favorite restaurant in the world. The food is amazing and the ambiance is cozy and unique. Chef Oscar cooks with the special touch he learned at home with his mom and aunts. The food is paired with delicious drinks and the best cafe de olla made by Cathy. You’ll learn a lot about Mexican food and you’ll feel you are in the kitchen with chef Oscar. If you want to have a special dinner with a partner or family, this is it. Cathy and Oscar have created something super special that you HAVE to checkout if you come to el Cuyo. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $1,000+

We embarked on a culinary expedition across Mexico at El Chile Gordo, El Cuyo 🌶️✨ This degustation dinner took us through time, showcasing iconic dishes from Yucatán, Sinaloa, CDMX, Monterrey, Oaxaca, and Puebla. From ancient Mayan flavors (c.1000 BC) to modern delights (c.1960), we tasted the rich diversity of Mexico's regions. The highlight: the championship-winning Mole Madre, cooking for over 5 years and crowned the best mole in all of México! An unforgettable journey celebrating Mexico's vibrant culinary tapestry 🇲🇽🍽️✨Thank you Cathy and Oscar for your hospitality, this was our best experience in Mexico so far. We had the most amazing dinner in this lovely fine-dining-like restaurant run by Cathy and her super-chef husband! We loved every course they served and would totally come here again. The price is really fair for the amount of food and quality service you receive. Make sure to book in advance and to get a seat at the table. They have one big table in the restaurant where you sit with all the other guests (due to COVID it was simply our group of 4 and another couple). Absolutely outstanding hospitality, in a lovely, mosquito-free place! I’d totally leave 10 stars ⭐️ if I could!

This is the BEST restaurant in El Cuyo. You must reserve in advance as they are primarily offering limited private seatings. Oscar and Cathy were warm and welcoming and truly offer a special dining experience. We were taken on a tour of Mexico and our taste buds were pleased as were introduced to authentic, hand crafted dishes from all over Mexico. Oscar even offered an entertaining table side presentation of a traditional soup made with a hot stone! So much fun. Highly recommend you don’t miss out on this unique experience. Also, in addition to preparing all of the dishes from scratch, Oscar also crafts all of the dishes from which you eat your delights. Yes he makes everything, the plates, the bowls, the Cutting boards, everything!!! Chef + Carpenter = Wow. Their restaurant is a rare beauty.
My husband reserved this restaurant 2 months in advance, to celebrate my birthday! We had high expectations, being foodies…we were even more impressed than we expected. The food is exquisite, very fresh and original. The 8 course meal was just the right proportion and the detailed explanation by the owner (also a chef) added to the whole wonderful experience. It was a road trip through Mexico, all on your plate (which is made from wood by the chef designed to each course). It was the most memorable meal of our trip to Mexico. And even though I wasn’t feeling great physically, it was a truly uplifting and magical experience ! Unforgettable …. Meal type Dinner

This place! We found El Chile Gordo on a small blog about El Cuyo and decided we would book a night in El Cuyo just so we could eat here. It was definitely worth it! Oscar cooks amazing and Cathy is an excellent host. In Mexico City we had dinner at Pujol, but we actually liked the atmosphere and Dishes at El Chile Gordo better. Especially the lobster&steak with a frozen salsa was heavenly. Btw we were a bit confused on when they were open. It seemed to be only on weekends. But in the end we were welcome on a Tuesday. So just send them an text to see if they have a spot free. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner
FIVE STARS IS NOT ENOUGH Who would believe in tiny El Cuyo a restaurant of this quality. The food is prepared by Oscar and served by Kathy. So out of the way it becomes a “Faberge” moment as you enter this tiny jewel. I have gone twice to the tasting menu. 9 courses !!! Perfect proportions and great presentation. The mole surpasses any of the great moles I had in Oaxaca. Salas are stars. And the dessert tamale is exceptional. I would drive just to come to the restaurant. Reservation a must.
