Very cozy authentic Japanese Soba noodle restaurant with a nice atmosphere and beautiful lake view. The owners of the restaurant are a lovely 94-year-old woman and her daughter. Very welcoming and friendly. I ordered a set with fish that melted in my mouth. Soba was also very good. I recommend this place to everyone for a homely Japanese atmosphere in a quiet place with delicious food.

Driving back from the Ice caves, we decided to take the scenic route along the lake. we stopped off for pictures, met a fisherman, admired the reflection of Fuji in the lake, contemplated things in a philosophical way, and just wound down from tokyo town.
we passed this little spot on the lake and thought we'd pop in and have Soba, because I'd been told one had to have Soba in the five lakes area.
But as we were parking the car, the delightful owner of this charming establishment came out and gestured to us that she was closed.
so we didn't exit the car, we sat there for a bit wondering if we would have our dream of Saiko Soba dashed, and checking the twatnav for food alternatives.
Out pops Granma Soba, and she beckons us inside with a smile.
as we were taking our seats, the lovely Obaachan hands us some menus and points to a choice, and as we were there at her inconvenience, we let her choose our dishes.
also my grasp of Kanji at the time was woeful, so i didn't even pretend to understand the menu
she spoke little to no English, and my Japanese is awful, so between us we had a right laugh, she is delightful!
she disappeared out back to prepare our meals and we sat for a bit to admire the view.
This restaurant is located right on the lake, the views out of the window are spectacular, and we had the pleasure of seeing the approaching dusk from our window.
she returned with our meals, and with a series of gestures and inference, showed us how we should eat them, and what to do with the Barley tea and buckwheat.
she then left us for a bit, and waited with serene patience for us to finish.
we were in the process of eating a bit faster than usual, when another Obaachan came through the door.
this tiny ladies English was a touch better, and it transpired that this lady was a friend of the owner, coming to check on her friend who was late, making sure she was OK.
so cute!
she told us to not rush, now that she was here they could have tea together and we could take our time.
so they sat and had some tea, and we sat and had some tea, and we just chilled.
and it was something special.
a memory that will stay with me always.
The Soba was wonderful, the tea was a perfect accompaniment, the duck was delicious, the view was spectacular and our host was serenely gracious.
above and beyond your usual great Japanese service.
do not drive past this restaurant without a visit....
Quaint local soba place. Decor was so warm and homely. Even had a great view of the lake, maple trees framing the window. I loved everything about this place. The soba was especially delicious and their dipping sauce is rich with flavour, not the watered down versions I’ve tried before. Best of all, it was less than $8! I would highly recommend. It was worth going out of the way to eat here.

Adorable old Japanese lady helms this place. No English at all here so be prepared to just wing it. She will show you the set menu so just randomly pick a set. We had the fish and duck sets, and an awesomely peaceful view of the lake by the window. You would definitely want to avoid the normal meal hours here. I went around 3pm for a quiet lunch. Miss the place already! Arigato Gozaimasu!
The place is really good. Sitting near the windows and look at Sai lake is awesome!!! The food is good, but no English menu.
The owners were really kind and tried to explained how the food were. My brother forgot his back, but he did not remember until we came back from the trip, then we stopped by this place and his bag was out there in this place. The owner kept it for us and tried to call to our hotels (we talked while ate her noddle where we could live), but we did not checking in yet. When we got the bag, they even gave us the snacks too. So kind ladies. We will visit this place again.
Amazing authentic soba made by the cutest old lady (who is 90 years young!) and her colleague. I ordered the duck soba and it was so delicious!! After I had finished my meal, it didn't stop there! The lady gave me coffee, a Japanese Mandarin (Minkan) and snacks and topped up my remaining soup with water so I could drink it. It was one of the best Soba I have had and I have been to a Michelin Soba restaurant before and this place is right there next to it. What makes it extra special are the two lovely ladies and the incredible scenic views from the table.
For the adventurous, who like to get out of Tokyo, this soba shop on the shore of Lade Sai is a great destination. Serving a special soba, Dhattan Soba, which comes from the Himilayas (and some from Hokkaido) you'll find it to be a tasty dish. Be sure to order the grilled fish. Ask the lady who serves it to you to show you how to use your chopsticks to easily separate the flesh from the bones. Take home a couple of packs of the soba crispy cookies. Browse through the numerous photo albums for some spectacular shots of Mt. Fuji and the surrounding area. Just a few hundred meters up the street is another restaurant, run by the owner's daughter, where you can rent bicycles for a leisurely ride around the lake (only 10 km, and flat all around).
Cosy cash only, soba restaurant by the lake. The duck soba (4) was excellent. As someone who doesn’t normally go for cold noodles. I can thoroughly recommend this restaurant, delicious.
