Be sure to make dinner or show reservations days before you even check into the hotel because once you’re there, it’s almost impossible and you’ll be stuck eating at only the buffet or snack bars and the food there is hit and miss. Late at night, the snack bar will typically only serve the leftover food from the buffet that closes and won’t make the snack foods listed on their menu to order. We were visiting New Year’s weekend and were excited to explore many things at the resort on our vacation only to find out many things on the resort were closed for the holiday and nothing about this informed us on their websites so we could prepare ourselves to entertain ourselves.
Also, because their restaurants have limited reservations they fill up so fast, we weren’t able to visit one of the nicer restaurants for New Year’s Day and stuck again at the buffet or snack bar. Bar selection is good but some of the drink mixers taste weird. Make sure you download the app or you won’t know ANYTHING about the events going on at the resort. Also, we had scheduled a couple’s massage at the spa before we checked in. We came in very late from the airport and had overlooked the fine print to also “confirm” our appointment with the spa upon arrival for the next day so they gave it away to someone else. They claimed they tried to call the room the day before when we weren’t even checked in yet to remind us to confirm (sure they did). The management and concierge could care less about making sure their guests have a pleasant experience here. Out of all the resorts we’ve been to, this is arguably one of our worst experiences. After this visit, we don’t ever plan to visit this chain of resorts again or recommend to anybody else. Beware, go somewhere else where they will actually care about your vacation being worry-free.
I've been to a several resorts, and Bahia Principe is consistently great. It isn't as though nothing negative ever happens, as the staff is sometimes a bit disorganized. However, on the average this chain of resorts is amazing.
The one negative comment I can make, and have heard echoed by other guests when you speak with them is the temperature of the a la carte food. It is often room temperature, and that makes it a little questionable sometimes.
However, this place will definitely make you feel like you are on vacation. Ariba!
