I walked past this place, three times, and it looked amazing so I had to try it. We were first for breakfast. It was amazing the service was fast. The server was great. The food was delicious.
We ordered at different times of food still came out on time and hot and delicious.
I highly recommend the French toast with bacon and eggs and fruits. Oh my God it’s my new fave breakfast place in Bacalar.

Visited during the New Year. Nicely decorated cafe and kitchen were ran by female chefs. Great selection of food.
Their French toast with eggs and bacon was a hit. The Super Matcha tasted alright and was slightly on the diluted side.
Cafe was really packed so food took a while, but cafe was cozy enough to just chill and enjoy their good music playing in the background.

This is one of the nicer and pricer restaurants in the area but the price is worth the quality and space. It's very clean and well kept! The Passion smoothie was simple with just passion fruit, orange and water and it was amazing! It was so refreshing on a hot day.
I came back the next day for the Detox juice and tuna tartar appetizer which looks amazing but the tuna could have been fresher. If you're from the States, you may think this is similar to the Spicy Tuna Roll from Yard House but it really doesn't compare.
I'd highly recommend and if the juices and smoothies.
The waitress, Claudia, is very sweet and also speaks English!
They take cash and credit card here.

Delicious food. I got the fish tacos and quite frankly I wish I had two stomachs because I would have inhaled a second order of them if I had any room left. Very fair pricing, food is great quality, staff is friendly and great, and I had a really nice time. Only regret is I didn't get a chance to dine here again before I had to leave Bacalar and head back to Merida.
But I will definitely be back!

We ate two times at Ajal. First time diner during our first night, and the second time breakfast at our last morning in Bacalar.
The food was very good, and there were good vibes aswell during both occasions.
An extra plus for the owner who personally helped me (without having any benefit from it) getting some extra cash when there was a problem with the ATM's in Bacalar and we were in need. (For the record; in Ajal you can also pay with card!)

Everything we ordered was excellent - big portions, fresh, colourful ingredients and well cooked. I particularly liked the shrimp tacos. Service was fast.
Edit: breakfast is also really good. The staff are so nice here!

Ajal was a great find! The restaurant has a great atmosphere and very delicious food. We went there for dinner and loved so much that we came back next day for breakfast. For dinner we ordered chicken tacos and picaña tacos. Delicious . For breakfast we ordered chilaquiles verdes with chicken and a savory waffle and some fresh juices. It was a great portion. We highly recommend Ajal. Everything tasted super fresh

Don't be fooled by the cute lights!
Terrible service and horrible food. The chicken brochette was burned and dry. I couldn't even pierce my fork in some pieces. The potato's however were still quite raw.
It was the slowest waiter on earth. We had to wait 15 minutes just to get a coke, while there was just three tables filled and no one else had ordered yet.
The waiter was only watching movies on his phone. Even when he did saw us waiving, he nodded to us and continue to ignore us until my husband finally got up to get him.
When we did finally get the check, it was of the wrong table, even though there were only three tabled filled.
Then, while staring at us getting our money out, (which I though was pretty rude) he dropped the plates. He just left the uneaten food lying on the ground and started to move on to other tasks...
Just go to any of the other nice restaurants in town!
