I had a remarkable experience, the fire place was beautiful!! They have a great wine list, the history of the White House tavern was remarkable!!! Amazing service by the staff, very knowledgeable and friendly. The bread pudding and the beef Wellington was my absolute favorite of the night…. I also suggest you make a reservation and dress appropriately to enjoy the romantic atmosphere that the White House tavern provides…. It was worth every cent!!!! Will definitely visit again!! I was worried this was a place that relies on its reputation / history to draw people in but after eating there I see why it has remained in place as the food is GREAT! Servers are very friendly and helpful, the cocktails are delicious and the wine list is extensive but not in a overwhelming snooty way. The Beef Wellington is fantastic but honestly all the food is great. The chef clearly knows what they are doing and I deeply appreciate someone who understands what rare means. I appreciate the decor represents the history of this restaurant without feeling over the top or kitchy. The whole place just has a nice, welcoming warming feel. Also, the hostess was really kind and had a GREAT sense of style which was just fun to see when we walked in. Would def go back the next time I am in Newport. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I was definitely expecting more out of this experience especially considering it cost about $100 per person. We were seated on the top level at this wobbly table that kept tipping back and forth while we ate. I know this place is old but come on! The wine selection was soso and the food was quite average. Definitely not worth the price I paid. I had better lobster ravioli at a small Italian restaurant for less than half of what this restaurant charges. Overall this was a very expensive underwhelming experience, won’t come back! Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the White Horse Tavern in Newport, Rhode Island, and I must say, it was an experience like no other. As the oldest continually operating restaurant and bar in America, the history alone makes this place a must-visit. But it's not just the history that captivated me; it was the entire atmosphere—warm, intimate, inviting, and steeped in tradition. Now, let's talk about the food. I ordered the chicken breast smothered in Marsala sauce, and it was nothing short of divine. The chicken was juicy, tender, and cooked to perfection. The Marsala sauce added a rich, complex flavor that elevated the dish to a whole new level. It was incredibly filling, leaving me more than satisfied. For dessert, I opted for the seasonal pudding, and I wasn't disappointed. It was deliciously sweet, yet not overpowering, and it paired exceptionally well with my coffee. The dessert was the perfect ending to an already fantastic meal. Overall, the White Horse Tavern is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience that takes you back in time while offering modern culinary delights. The service was impeccable, the atmosphere was enchanting, and the food was out of this world. This is a place that has left an indelible mark on my memory, and I can't wait to return.
