A cullinary feast prepared by self -taught chef Shaun Scrooby. My best cullinary experience ever. Shaun prepares all his food on a open fire in a restaurant( seating for 10 guests inside) Intimate and personal is the two words that comes to mind. We had the 8 course menu with paired with Remhoogte wines. We were pleasantly suprised from start - each course a work of art- prepared while chef Shuan is elaborating on the fresh - farm to table ingedients. Courses included snoek croqette, scallop salad. braaied watermelon, Smoked leeks, Smoked rare ostrich steak with flaming wagu fat. Book as soon as possible. The four of us enjoyed a very memorable lunch++!! Tina and Mandre treated us to an incredible, relaxed event which we will never forget. Best meal I've ever had!! Amen. An amazing dining experience, we enjoyed a lovely lunch and made new friends at the shared chefs table on Goose island. The hosts were friendly and professional, they paired the dishes with Remhoogte wines. The dishes included fruit and vegetables grown on the premises. We spent a wonderful, unhurried afternoon with Shaun and Tina at VUUR. What an incredible location. To have a spot like this to ourselves for the afternoon was amazing in itself. The wind picked up a little so we ended up inside - it’s lovely in there too! Shaun and Tina are fantastic, friendly hosts. My friends and I love food cooked on the fire and we really enjoyed Shaun’s creative menu. The wine is delightful too - Remhoogte Wines complimented the food perfectly. In South Africa we are spoilt for choice when it comes to great restaurants... whether it's location, the food or the hospitality: great memories were made in many great places. Yet only few are truly memorable... and VUUR is one of those! It hits the spot from all three angles: 1. Location: a spectacular yet seclusive setting under a massive oak tree with only one table makes for one unique experience... a beautifully restored shed takes the concept of "private room" to another dimension! 2. Food: Shaun is a converted accountant / game-ranger now turned chef... and he has found his passion! Great quality ingredients, all cooked with wood-based fired and mixed with some ingenious preparation (melting Wagyu-fat over Ostrich sure made for the most delicious peace of game-meat I ever had)! 3. Hospitality: Shaun and Tina are superb hosts... great conversationalists, reading the table well... with unforgettable stories to share, but also respecting the privacy of their guests at the right time... on point! What a great place VUUR is... we had an afternoon we will not forget anytime soon and if anything: we'll be back soon more friends because this gem must be shared with as many people as possible! How Fortunate we have been to have diner at VUUR on Dec 30th. Most of us changed their ideas on what is good food ! Shaun and Tina ( & team) are presenting you with personalized, immersive and unconventional great food locally grown, to the point we were wondering how we will go back to our daily "normal" food ! Of course wine pairing with Remhoogte (fav Chenin and Pinotage) is perfect. Zebra, springboks and others animals make the decorum transcending. We are well traveled and have been eating all over the world, but this made the Podium, Thank you Shaun and Tina, meeting you was a blast on all regards. Magical is how our Canadian family described their day at Vuur. We were all really impressed, loved all that Vuur had to offer.
