As much as it saddens me to say this. We have been going to village gourmet for years It was the best Asian food I've had in years, it was our absolute favorite hands down. Unfortunately I have to say it. I'm finally coming to make this review. Their food has gone down in quality drastically,prices are more expensive which is understandable but the quality of of their food is nowhere near what it used to be, it doesn't taste as fresh portions are smaller. I think this is going to be our last time going there.This is about the third time over the course of about 6 months. Finally I had to say something. I was hoping they'd get back on track. I went to this place this past weekend and it was my first time. I was very disappointed by the entire experience from the food to the service and especially the service. My fiancé and I arrived in the afternoon to have lunch and we were seated pretty quickly as we were the only patrons there. We met our waitress who didn’t bring us any water but took our order for appetizers and entrees. The food arrived, still no water. We asked for water and ginger ale and she brought our our drinks in plastic bottles!!!!!! We then asked her for glasses with ice and she acted as if she was being inconvenienced. My fiancé ordered soup and had to ask for the crackers to go with it. We weren’t offered chopsticks and she never came to check on us. Instead, she sat down and ate her own meal a few tables down. The bill came and we paid and decided she deserved no tip. When we left the restaurant, she jumped out of her seat and dashed outside to the parking lot where she confronted us about leaving her no tip. We explained why she wasn’t being tipped and she tried to argue with us. We couldn’t believe she had the nerve to argue with us about a tip stay away from this place. We ordered takeout at least once a week from Village Gourmet from 1998-2008. Can honestly say they never missed. Not once. Superb food. I live in Philly now and I think this place often. I saw their rating was 4.2 and felt compelled to leave a glowing review. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Some of the Chinese food I've ever had. You wouldn't expect the best Chinese food to be in Westport but Village Gourmet is so special - better than anywhere I have tried in NYC I don't understand the few negative reviews here I have been going here for close to 20 years hahaha. Super consistent, always delicious. I recommend pork fried dumplings, general tso's, chick broc, fried rice, sesame noodles. We used to love village but lately it’s been terrible. Tonight, we ordered $150 worth of food and it was beyond awful, so disappointed. The vegetables were raw, rice under cooked, chicken over cooked, even burnt more importantly everything lacked flavor. We will no longer order from village. Price per person $100+

This used to be a great restaurant for Chinese food but it is no longer the case. We got cotton dry sesame chicken and naively thought to try again and asked the staff to please make sure the chicken was not dry and got the dame dish. That shows they don't care. So I have to start by saying that this has been our favorite Chinese food place in Connecticut, every time my family comes from overseas the first meal they always ask for is from this restaurant. And while they stay here we order every other day. So we have tried many things on the menu and everything is highly tasty! I mean, it keeps you wanting more, even when you have leftovers it tastes delicious the following day. The sesame chicken is soooo good, crispy, sweet and very well done. The shrimp is amazing too, the one with mango is highly recommended as it has fresh cut mango. We truly love the place for sitting and take out. If you eat at the restaurant, expect high quality service, they just keep you happy from beginning to end. Definitely love this place.
