Extremely over priced (had the Xmas prix fixe). $650 for 2. Everyone was lovely and nice and the food was delicious (expect the dessert was a bit lame - maybe just uninspired - thus the 2 stars) but bang-per-buck, not worth it. When we ordered for a glass of champagne, of course the waiter brought my wife a $40 glass (we were unaware). We got taken for a ride. For the same price, we had a seven course meal with the vintners offering at Menton in Boston. (Barbara Lynch. Just cloaed recently) Then again, it was one of the only places open for dinner on Xmas day. They had us by the short ones. We won't return. FYI: One high point, the beef wellington was exceptional. We came here for my partner’s birthday and had a lovely dinner. The atmosphere is unbeatable, it’s such a charming location with eye for detail. Our server, Peter, was wonderful! We had the $165 standard menu (you can choose from a couple of dishes per course, there is no à la carte) and loved all of the food. We ate dinner at the bar which serves the Little Barn menu. It was Prelude, and as walk ins we could not get a table on the spur of the moment—understandable. For my first comment, the bar is very narrow, cramped and right in the doorway—a big burr on a 17 degree December night. The Manhattan was good but less than generous for $19. We had the pris fixe menu for $35 per person. Very good shrimp toast as a first course, 2nd course was a beautiful looking pot pie, but I must have missed the memo that it was all mushrooms. My dinner partner had a sausage roll as an appetizer—also good—and a short rib mac and cheese which was watery, served luke warm and had a thimble full of short rib. Desserts were very good. Bottom line, dinner wasn’t bad, but putting the whole experience together, it wasn’t great either. Doubt we will be back anytime soon. Overall pretty setting with a moderately friendly staff and unremarkable food. Quite frankly we expected more.
