About
The Derby in Arcadia is a classic American steakhouse, with a touch of horse racing nostalgia. The establishment boasts a warm and inviting ambiance, with dimly lit chandeliers and cozy booths perfect for a romantic dinner or a special occasion. The interior design pays homage to its location near the Santa Anita racetrack, with jockey photos and paintings adorning the walls. Prices at this fine dining spot are on the higher end, but worth it for the quality of food and service. Located near the racetrack, The Derby is a convenient stop for a pre- or post-race meal. The menu features classic steakhouse dishes such as bacon-wrapped filet and prime rib, as well as more modern options like slow-roasted pork and beet salad. The signature cocktail, "The Iceman," is a must-try, served in a copper martini glass with blue cheese-stuffed olives. For non-alcoholic options, the establishment offers a variety of soft drinks and an extensive wine list. Special features include a bar area for happy hour drinks and hors d’oeuvres, as well as outdoor seating for those who prefer to dine al fresco. The Derby also offers live entertainment, adding to the overall experience. Overall, The Derby is a must-visit establishment for those seeking a classic American steakhouse experience with a touch of horse racing history.

We celebrated Valentine's Day this year at The Derby and enjoyed the experience. We ordered the French onion soup, which was amazing. So much flavor, though it can feel a bit salty at the end. We also had the roasted tomato burrata. It was so good with the garlic bread. The appetizers itself could fill you up, so go easy on the appetizers so you have room for dinner. My husband ordered The Mike Smith which is a prime bone-in ribeye. He had to search for the bone because it was so small and there was a whole lot of ribeye. I wasn't too hungry after finishing the appetizers so I didn't want to order a steak. I went with the penne a la vodka and the chicken was not dry. There was still enough for lunch the next day. I'd come again to try the other dishes. Parking: there's valet in the front but there's also a self-park section if you drive towards the back. Just make sure you read the signs, since they're a little faded. Price per person $50–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We are in town from salt lake and we had wanted to find a local steakhouse that was closer to the nicer side of ambiance and food. We found The Derby. I'll start with the ambiance, it is very nice. Low lit and tastfully decorated. As you walk in they have cabinets off to the side that showcase race track history. The doors have etched glass windows of racehorses as well. The drinks are cutely named after famous racehorses. The menu has at first glance, a variety of meat, seafood, and sides. The first drink we ordered was a mojito, it was delicious. We also ordered the three course meal option. First course we ordered was a Cesar salad and a French onion soup. The Cesar was well done. The French onion soup was very heavily loaded with cheese and hard to puncture through to the soup. The bread that goes on top was not toasted and had become a soggy mess by the time you were able to get to it. The actual soup was ok but laking in onion. Second course was our entrées. We ordered "The Derby Delight" a filet mignon with garlic mashed and green beans. The sides were good. We got the garlic butter and shaved truffle add ons. The filets were overcooked from what was ordered and everything had a bernaise sauce on it. While it was a good sauce it came on everything, leaving the meal very one note and not much diversity in flavor. The dessert was a choice between bread pudding with a whiskey sauce and an amaretto Cheesecake. The bread pudding was alright the whiskey sauce was delicious. The Cheesecake was extremely dense. I think in experimenting with flavors they should have done a little more testing before serving it. The biggest disappointment was that they topped it all with cool whip. The server we had while very nice, was very green and overwhelmed. Definitely more training before they are on their one would be more beneficial. Overall for the price point the meal was not worth it. The service friendly but lacking and the ambiance very great! Enjoyed The Derby for the first time, celebrating my wife’s Birthday and experienced not only great food and service, but a lot of history and horse racing culture as well. Vintage steakhouse with great atmosphere and food. Service is always impeccable. Would have given 5 stars across the board if a couple of the cocktails we ordered came in the proper glassware.
