decent food in the middle of the tourist strip. they have some board games to keep you occupied while you wait, because the wait is real. our food took an hour to make. seems like they take their sweet time in the kitchen. the food itself was quite good. the rice with eggplant was surprisingly good. I've been in Laos for a long while. I've had excellent food at a few random finds. But in Luang Prabang, I've been disappointed by the food scene. Gorgeous places with high prices and food that's quite pedestrian. As a big eater and not a fan of wasting money and food, I rarely every could finish my meal. On my last night here, I decided to give this place a chance. Holy WOW. The BEST meal I've had in Laos. The portion is HUGE (easily enough for 2). Took me almost 2 hours to finish it but I just cannot stop eating. The salad was so fresh. Chicken was crispy (even after sitting in dressing for hours). The honey mustard dressing was clearly home-made and a study in balance of flavors. The Thai Iced Tea Frappe packs a punch of flavor that transported me back to Thailand. Cannot recommend this place highly enough and I'll be back here for coffee and breakfast before my train out of LP. We came here multiple times during our visit to LP and we were always greeted with extremely friendly service with a smile. The owner is so nice. The restaurant opens very early in the morning. The mixed berry smoothie was genuinely the best smoothie we've had in our travels in south east Asia (25,000) and the bacon roll is so tasty (30,000). The prices throughout the menu are very cheap and perfect for backpackers. You can also, as the name suggests, play chess here if you wish, which is a great addition! Location is perfect and Wi-Fi works great. Absolutely recommend! Service Dine in Meal type Breakfast

Great Muesli and smoothies for a fair price! The Mango Banana smoothie is really delicious. Their staff is friendly and welcoming and we had a fun time playing a match of chess. We were the only customers there and realized later that they left the cafe open a little longer especially for us. Thank you so much for having us! Really kind people and definitely a place I would visit again. Service Dine in Meal type Brunch Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Not sure why this gets such good reviews. It’s expensive, the food looks nothing like the pictures and has no flavour. It took over 30mins to arrive. I ordered the chickpea pasta salad and it arrived without the chickpeas! When I asked to have them included the staff looked annoyed and acted like I was being unreasonable. The dish was literally just boiled pasta and tinned chickpeas thrown in with lettuce. No seasoning, nothing to give it any flavour other than a small side bowl of salad dressing. My boyfriend’s dish was just tinned tomatoes and chickpeas mixed together. Pretty poor given the prices! Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 4

Great egg and bacon roll. Tasty! Slightly disappointed with the lack of interaction between people, as it would've been nice to actually play chess. But, that's probably more to do with traveling these days. Everyone on their phones! Only down side of this cafe? Flies!!! Absolutely loads of flies. Hard to eat without a fly trying to share. Annoying! Meal type Breakfast Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
The Chess Cafe has a wide selection of home cooked pastries, cakes, fresh fruit smoothies and wonderful coffee. The owners Paul and Vong are so friendly and welcoming, it’s a great place to play chess or just sit and relax in the stylish old colonial building.
Don't the trust the pictures, I did not expect strawberries and blueberries, but kiwi and banana. Got mango and fruits I don't like. Service Dine in Meal type Breakfast Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Chill place to escape the sun. There's a table with a chess board. They offer smoothies, coffee, croissants,.some cheesecakes and other breakfast options. Clean toilet. My mint & lime drink was very refreshing, exactly what I was looking for. Service Dine in Meal type Other Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
