Blue Owl is located in historic Kimswick and the town is historic and right along the river. The building is beautiful and the wooden floors are old and beautiful and very crooked. It’s an old building that’s grown with the crowd that flocks there. There is a dozen chairs sitting out front to accommodate those in line. Luckily we arrived in February, at 11 am and there was not a line. Lots of customers but not maxed. When you walk in to the right is an old room of the house converted to a dining room. Very quaint. At the entrance to the room are two doors for restrooms. The one to the right is labeled handicap. That’s because the toilet is high and the room is sufficiently large. The other is a very tiny cove that if you are large in any way don’t go there. A hostess will greet and seat you. There are three dining rooms. The first to the right, a large enclosed patio to the left and a large dining room beyond those to the left which is where we sat. It has a beautiful fireplace, lace curtains, flowers and candles and really sets the mood. On the way to that dining room is the bakery display. The waitress was exceptionally kind and efficient. The ambiance was great and acoustics absorb the sound of diners well. We were able to witness and join in with a young girls happy birthday serenade. All very quaint. So why the prices? The prices are high and the food just doesn’t match. I know prices are high everywhere but wow. I have included the receipt so you could be the judge.I ordered Lorraine Quiche, broccoli soup and fresh fruit. The crust on the quiche was tough. The bottom layer was smoked bacon. I like bacon a lot but didn’t like that. The soup was good. Not exceptional but definitely good. The fruit was cantaloupe, grapes and pineapple (it is February in the Midwest). This cost a little over $17. My husband had a small bowl of dumplings with velvet chicken soup and green beans for the same price. He said the soup was exceptional. The dumplings were real thin with a clean broth which seemed more like chicken noodle soup. That being said my husband loved them and the accompanying roll. Just not what expected. He ordered chocolate cake and I had chocolate pie. The pie was at least a few days old. Pudding was stiff. Crust hard and chewy and not edible. After eating the pudding I ended up with a 1/4 cup of pudding for over $7. This quaint little experience cost us over $90 with tip. I just wouldn’t go back for it. I saw some regulars so many would and we Mia have ordered the wrong thing. I heard the chicken was great. I was trying to eat light because I was in my way to Super Bowl party. My husband put it well when he said it just wasn’t worth it Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $30–50 Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The food here was fantastic 😋 and so was our service. Thank you Starr. We tried the portobello mushroom sandwich and country fried steak (daily special). Then finished up with the levee caramel pecan apple pie. 😋 So sorry I didn't get more pics. Here is the scoop: I have eaten here plenty of times in the past they are a breakfast/lunch place (they close at 3). I just swung in today to get a couple pieces of pie to go as Xmas gifts. Be warned, a piece of pie cost me $9.00 a piece (update - read the last paragraph). If you are going to go inside and eat you need to get there early because they do get packed. The sun porch has glass installed and is quite warm. Warm enough that you can comfortably eat outside with just a sweatshirt or long sleeve t shirt. They have some crazy good white chicken chilli 😃, but if you can going to get a peice pie have an organ or extra appendage you can sell off 😥. I was their yesterday and had the turkey melt, it was super loaded with salt almost unfit to eat. I choked down 3/4's of it and left hungry. I wouldn't normally complain because it might had been an off day for whomever was cooking but for $15.95 they need to do better. I have noticed the price of their pies has gone up, again - and the pieces have gotten smaller.🤔😡 Service Take out Meal type Other Price per person $10–20 Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3

Had a great lunch before Christmas shopping at all the little shops. We had the Sunday special of Chicken Fried Steak and Chicken Dinner. Portions were huge but lacked seasoning. Way too full for desert so remember to split a meal and splurge on some magnificent pies. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The Blue Owl has been a part of Kimmswick as long as I can remember. The atmosphere is one that brings back so many memories. I have never had a bad experience at the Blue Owl. Try a slice of pie! While you are in Kimmswick, check out some of the shops. Great way to spend an afternoon.
