Good, authentic Taiwanese food. We had the salt-and-pepper fried squid, the pig intestine hot pot with noodles, and the Chinese squash. The squid was nicely cut and fried -- but strangely not very salty, and there was no dish of salt and pepper on the side, as at many restaurants. The pig intestine didn't have a lot of pieces of intestine, but was good, and had some nice greens and peanuts -- it is spicy, but you can order it less spicy. The Chinese squash was bland, but that's the way it's supposed to be. Most of the customers were Chinese. I will return! As others have said, be sure to park to the LEFT of the restaurant. They can be very busy sometimes, so call ahead. The room is simple and clean. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

We came in late dinner hour on a rainy Monday night and it was near empty so we were a little nervous, but the food was great and the proprietress was very friendly. Soup dumplings and the sauce are very good, even if $13 for 8 seems steep. We liked the twice cooked pork more than the pepper beef, but both were good. Twice cooked pork was a good level of spicy, pepper beef is a bit spicier than that. It was about $55 for the three items but with our own rice, the main dishes lasted us for dinner and a few days of lunch. Would come back more often if we were closer. Taipei Gourmet had been our go to Chinese takeout place for years but recently, before the arrival of new ownership, it had gone downhill. I am very happy to say that the new owners have returned the restaurant to its previous high quality. They have also renovated the interior. It now looks new and clean and organized. The staff is friendly. The portions are quite large. I had the jumbo shrimp with garlic sauce. There was enough shrimp for at least 2 full meals and it was served with ample and varied vegetables. Authentic asian cuisine. Pleasantly surprised. Ordered from the weekend dim sum menu and thoroughly enjoyed each dish. Good selection of dishes available on their menus. Looking forward to returning and trying other dishes. Update: as of March 2023...new ownership. Menu is different and now offers more Szechuan dishes. They do still offer a few of the previous popular dishes like the soup dumpling and soy drink. Overall food still seems to be decent and worth trying. Will continue to try other dishes. Food is only ok but the service is so slow. There is only one waiter, who is friendly and great but overwhelmed. The owner(?) merely stands at the counter and yells, doing nothing to help move service along. As a result, you could be seated and have nobody come along for 10 minutes. The food is a mixed bag. The pork with bamboo shoots and dried bean curd was good but the hot and sour soup tasted only of soy sauce, there was barely any sour and definitely no heat. Don't get it. The scallion pancake didn't taste anything like scallions but was crispy. The beef noodle soup didn't have too much flavor and was quite oily but the beef was really, really good. Perfectly tender and the only source of flavor. The Xiao Long Bao was good, with plenty of broth.
