One of the most unique places I have ever visited in my life. Part café, part archeological site, part community center and cultural space!
I had a meal and came back the next day to learn how to weave and caught the end of an archeological conference displaying the newest finds.
The owner also owns a homestay down the road that I happened to be staying at. It is also really lovely!
A nice clean and 文清 restaurant in Xincheng near the entrance to Taroko national park. The service was very attentive and the food was of good quality. There isn't many options but I think that's something good. It guarantees the food quality is better! And that each plate was well prepared. The nice part is that they also have veggie options too! They have side dishes and main meals both for vegetarians and meat eaters. Thank you so much Mhuway for making our stay at hualian more special by having us at your restaurant.
The food is of great quality with excellent flavor, combined with indigenous ingredients and western spices. All dishes are seasoned exquisitely; you can taste the fresh of meat and veggies with specially-cooked sauces.
Plus, It’s run by local indigenous people, which means by eating here you can support the development of local businesses. They also offer traditional handcart classes. These classes are perfect for people who want to experience traditional life of Taroko people and this indigenous tribe!
I would strongly recommend this restaurant for people to try! You can’t miss this place when traveling to Taroko National Park!
Atmosphere and decors were good but food was not - very bland and not at all tasty.. wish I’d seen the warnings before I came here, very much overrated, think twice before going in.. we tried fish, pasta and sandwich not good at all..

Mhuway was a wonderful place to stop to grab lunch on our first day in Hualien. The food had unique flavors and the drinks were especially good. The interior décor was very cute, especially the handmade tissue/napkin holders! The warm hospitality of the chef/owner was much appreciated!

Nice environment. Empty. That’s the best I can say. We ordered the two pasta dishes. Be was supposed to have blue cheese, the other fish roe. As far as we could tell they were identical with neither blue cheese nor fish roe. And both needed a ton of salt. I suspect the lady just forgot to add the two distinguishing ingredients. The beshamel sauce by itself was edible but not enjoyable. The Veggie soup is salty water with green leaves in it. That’s it. That was inedible. Next time I’m going to a cheap grubby street food stand full of customers. Not big on decor but good food.

Unfortunately we never got to taste the food, as we arrived 50 minutes before closing time with our two children and were told the last order was 10 minutes before. There was no option to still serve us, also not when we promised to be gone by 7 pm (official closing time). Hospitality scoring a 0…
Nice kebab, fresh greens and an excellent iced latte. Recommended!

I liked the food! It’s really delicious.
The atmosphere was nice and chill.
You can enjoy reading books, talking with friends and a cup of hand-brew coffee here!
It’s good to take a ride to Chinshui Cliff and come back for a nice meal and take rest here!
Staff is super friendly, not to mention the amazing smell of coffee and food quality!
You can’t miss this pace if you visit Taroko.
