Sunrise Chip N Ranch also known as Johnny Rotties has always been the place to go to when you really looking for something to fill you up properly! We ordered the chip cheese and mutton gravy rotti and let me tell you it was huge and very good for the price you pay. It was more than enough for me to eat in 2 days unless you have a big appetite... very well priced and tasty. Definitely recommend! I had the pleasure of visiting this local gem known as Johnny's. I indulged in the Baboo's special roti wrap with chips, beans gravy, chili sauce, and salad was a spicy delight. The footlong roti was filled generously enough to feed two adults. Each bite delivered a burst of flavours. The chips provided a satisfying crunch, complemented by the well-seasoned beans gravy. The chilli sauce added a zesty kick, elevating the overall taste profile. The inclusion of a fresh salad balanced the heat with a refreshing touch. It's a tantalizing combination that delivers on both flavour and texture, making it a standout choice for those craving a satisfying and spicy fast food experience with great value for money. It is sad when service and quality degenerates like this. I used to visit Johnny's Chip n Ranch many a times about 20 years ago. They the food was tasty. Last night feeling peckisk and not wanting the usual franchise foods, I decided to drive to Johnny's now called Sunrise Chip N Ranch in Overport which is approximately 30km from my home. Nevertheless I made the drive in the rain, anticipating the savory tasty food in my mind. Wow what a disappointment. I ordered a quarter mutton bunny, chicken and chips roti roll and mutton roti roll. All the food was cold. The bunny had more bones than meat no patatoe or salad. The roti rolls were just as disappointing. The only good thing about them is that they are opened for 24hrs. They are frequently supported by late night patrons, who are returning from clubbing or a night out partying. I really think that these supporter are so intoxicated by this time that they everything taste good. Sad to say, but they should remove the sign that on the wall "The original Johnny's Roti", it's an injustice to Johnny. Durban really needs another 24hrs place like this that serves all round food with good service. I will not buy from them again and do not recommend them. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
Beenbuy food her prob last 20+ years awesome food good service Tripple Mutton and Chip Roti for the Win! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
The place is not not properly maintained. The level of hygiene is appalling. Handling food with bare hands and checking the chips temperature with bare knuckles. Your cheese that goes into your food is torn with bare hands. No hair net NO gloves Utensils in are unclean The overall state and standard of the establishment is not appropriate to serve food to a decent and self respecting member of the community. Having frequented the place for over a decade, it's disappointing to note that the current owner, the son, seems uninterested in providing the once cherished good and clean customer service. The homely experience that the father used to offer has evidently diminished, and it's disheartening to see the establishment's demise. Growing up for I have the fondest memories of this establishment but today I disappointed. I bought the chips cheese and gravy roti and found the size of my childhood delight had shrunken to less than half. Even my children were disappointed. It's no longer worth for me. We heard this place is an institution in Durban and went here for late night snacks. Taxi drivers also know the place well, they're famous for their stuffed rotis and it's also one of your only options to get food late at night. Honestly, one of the classic cheese n chips roti weighs like 2 pounds, is stuffed with fries, gravy and cheese and can feed a whole family for a week. We bought 5 for r33 each, gave 2 away to our taxi driver and a homeless guy and hardly finished 2 of the remaining rotis with 5 people. Don't expect haute cuisine but this is what you need to eat after drunk night out in Durban.
