we went for brunch. The waitress was very helpful and was doing the best that she could, but she seemed to be a bit overwhelmed. The food was just okay. We tried the sugar bacon which I assume is their signature dish and it was okay. It was actually served to us lukewarm and I think we would've liked it more if it were hot. I ordered the crab cake Benedict, which surprisingly did not come with any bread so I ordered a biscuit to go with it. The coffee was weak and the biscuit was well made but tasted like it could use a little salt or something. It just felt like something was missing, even when I added butter and a blueberry compote. There was nothing really special about this dish to me, but even the egg white was runny and also there were a few completely charred burnt pieces in the potatoes. My companion ordered the brisket Benedict which was served cold, but they ended up replacing it with a hot order. Overall the food was unremarkable at best and I would not eat here again. I’ll start by saying I’m willing to go back and try something else because everyone I was with loved their food. However my meal was a huge disappointment. I got their main signature dish (Short Ribs) and it was terrible. The size was great but you could tell it wasn’t cooked long enough and the fat didn’t get time to render out. It was tough. I had to ask for a steak knife to cut it, but it didn’t matter, the chew was off, and the taste wasn’t there. Drinks were great, service was awesome, vibe was chill. But if I’m paying that price for your most popular dish, it better be miles above a steak salad or the chicken pasta. I took two bites and left it on the plate. This was the perfect spot to eat with our large group of 12! They sat us in a back section that was roomy enough for everyone and quiet enough to hear from one end of the table to the other. The food itself was great. We got bacon 2 ways, fried green tomatoes, and gulf oysters for appetizers and all were delicious. On Thursdays, oysters are only $1! It was a steal. I got the herb roasted chicken for my entree and it was so good. The chicken was so tender that it fell off the bone and the cauliflower/shaved brussels sprouts mix paired perfectly with it. We were too stuffed to get dessert but it looked like they had some tasty options. Their brunch is also delish! Can’t wait to return! Sugar Bacon in the McKinney square has great food. I’ve had their classic sugar bacon in the past but for date night we went for $1 oysters. They were surprisingly fresh and of decent size, considering the cost. Love the vibe at this venue. It’s almost never too crowded which means you can have a conversation with your date. Date night led us here for crabcake, we couldn't choose so we made a Bacon Flight. Highly recommend you do the same. The herb chicken salad was wonderful. Service was pleasant and no intrusive. Not our first time here 😉 Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
I thoroughly enjoyed Sugarbacon. A friend of mine mentioned that it was pretty good, and I had to see for myself:) I am glad to say that my friend was correct. Everything was of high quality that made my taste buds dance with joy. I especially enjoyed the Avocado Toast, the Mac and Cheese and the Hummingbird Cake with the whipped mascarpone. Sugarbacon definitely gets two thumbs up:) Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

*I had to update my review. I attended a networking event here recently. The restaurant claims that they didn't receive a reservation for 30 people. The waiter saif another server must have answered the phone. Bottom line it resulted in being told that I shouldn't order food if I am expecting it within 40 minutes. I would say make sure you have a reservation when taking a group, but we thought we had that covered already. The Goat Cheese Fondue & Bacon 2 Ways were my favorite. Cool restaurant and overall good food. We have the sugar bacon, the charcuterie board and the fried green tomatoes as appetizers they were amazing. The braised ribs and pork chop were also amazing. I had the scallops which were floating in some kind of cream corn, which was literally the most disgusting meal I’ve ever had in my life. The scallops were slimy, and then to texture them with cream corn was so gross on so many levels. Lol The manager came by asked me if I wanted something else and she got me a pork chop to go over all a great restaurant just do not get the scallops and hopefully they’ll take those nasty things off the menu. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $50–100 Recommended dishes Fried Green Tomatoes
Sugarbacon is a cool place to take your family when they come in the town, especially since going to downtown McKinney is such an easy, fun, and touristy thing to do. Sugarbacon has a pretty good menu, and they do sear up a pretty great steak. However, I will say that eating here does come out a price. This restaurant is not one of the cheaper options when it comes to eating out. We have been here a couple of times, and the service can sometimes be hit or miss. The steak in the photos was great, however it was not accompanied by a steak knife and I ended up having to wait over 20 minutes for a server to come by so that I can ask for one. I understand that they were busy that night, and that is fine and well, however it should be a trainable task to bring a steak knife out with a steak. At that point, the customer has everything that they need to eat it, but they can also cut into it and let you know if it is cooked appropriately. Overall the food is pretty good, and if you have not had the sugarbacon… you need to try it at least once, especially if you are a fan of anything pork belly! Service Dine in Price per person $20–30
