Update: 2024- this store is still selling expired items. Inventory management is non-existent.
The Management team here is underperforming.
CHECK the DATE on all items you purchase at this store... Was given croutons from 2021 in a drive up and go order, it's 2023. In addition, a bag of rotting potatoes. Fast forward, when shopping in store found cheese dip that expired in 2022. Gave it to an employee to have it removed from the shelf. Ridiculous...
Also, this stores drive up and go is pretty bad. Please check your items before leaving the store, items may be going bad (produce). On top of that the variety of items at this location is very limited, especially the bakery section. 😕
Update: the store has added new employees, however, the issue is with the management team, always has been. It is not fair to add new employees to work for bad management. What ends up happening? The Management team gets all the credit for improvements while doing absolutely nothing and underperforming as they have been. Also, the management team not only needs change but diversity. Good riddance.
The staff here is unhelpful and condescending.
I placed an order online for delivery. After my order had been "assembled", I received an email saying that 9 of the items that I ordered were out of stock (nearly half of my order).
I called the store directly and asked to have the order cancelled so that I could place it at another location. I was transferred to a staff member named Doug who could not have been any less helpful. He would not cancel my order, and when I explained to him that I wanted to cancel it because half the items that I ordered were out of stock, his exact response was "well yea, it's Sunday" in a very condescending tone, as if it was my fault the website allowed me order order items that they did not have.
I don't know what position Doug holds at the store, but he did admit that he was not a supervisor, so I'm not sure why I was transferred to him in the first place. He's clearly a low-level employee.
Needless to say, I won't be ordering from Star Market any more. This isn't the first time that I had items in my order not get delivered because they show up as "out of stock" after the order has already been placed and I've been charged. On top of that, I frequently order sale items, for example buy 2 get 2 free, and when they don't have one of them, I get charged full price for everything. They clearly need to do a better job of managing their inventory.
Every time I leave this place I'm reminded why I don't like going here. I feel depressed after going through the slow checkout. Also, even if you checkout with a person, they are hesitant to put groceries in bag ; so I leave annoyed. Since Market Basket has better prices, the only good about this place is that it's not as crowded cause it's more expensive which can be good if you don't feel like playing "bumber carts" like at MB.
I have, on several occasions, shopped in this store, due to its proximity, tho certainly not its prices.
On many of these occasions, I've found that common products (bacon sour cream & others) have been completely sold out or just plain not restocked. It can be a frustrating place to shop.
Market Basket is farther, but has better prices & always has what I went for.
The quality of service you get from the employees is disgusting. Particularly the older gender neutral looking woman with an mullet it’s gray and they look like they hate their life and they are completely miserable and frankly it’s unacceptable to continually be rude and condescending to customers, what is the point of getting a job to work with people and your a complete antisocial ignorant rude excuse of a person. They should fire her immediately.
WARNING: ALL OF THE OTHER REVIEWS THAT MENTION EXPIRED AND OLD ROTTEN FOOD ARE ACCURATE.
I have, on AT LEAST A DOZEN OCCASIONS bought expired food without reading how old it actually was.
This is a CONSISTENT PROBLEM at this store, because management is trying to maximize profits, and instead of writing off expired food, they push it and hope to not get sued.
Someone needs to ACTUALLY SUE THEM, or they won't fix any of this.
I've seen the copy->paste replies from management of "oh we're sorry you had a bad experience", they are NOT SORRY. They do it on purpose to maximize profits.
The ONLY reason this store is still in business is because there isn't another full grocery store nearby. If any half-decent store opened across the street it would give them a run for their money.
Management should be ASHAMED of themselves for caring so little about their customers.
I genuinely hope they get SUED or SHUT DOWN by the health department. Because there's no way they're going to actually change until you're legally forced to. Another grocery chain needs to open next door to put this clown show out of business.
It's a good store with nice workers who are just trying to make a living. I go here and Shaw's often. I can't pull myself together to go into that jungle of a store called market basket where the customers have no respect for other shoppers and the store is always a crowded nightmare. I don't think the problem is with the employees here, I think it's the customers who act like they are above society, which is something I've noticed when I moved to Lexington/ waltham area, with all the waspy people, entitled people and rich karens. As for the guy named Dee, I guarantee you you will find rotten fruit and expired food at Hannaford and market basket as well. Maybe you should get a job in retail and fix the problem yourself, instead of complaining about it every two weeks or just plain shop somewhere else
Stocking is a problem. Many items are often out of stock (Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter?) Today there was no tarragon. Last week it was in stock but looked tired.
Store has freshly made sushi, and prepared foods which have been my go to since I got a job across the street in the new office building. The young guy in the deli @ night has helped me find things the past four times I have come in the store with a big smile on his face. He even got me a basket when my hands were full! The only reason I don't give an extra star is the service desk is almost never open, which is a pain because the hours I work makes it hard for me to enter the store before 6 pm. Otherwise the store is convenient & pleasant to shop in!
