Awesome place. We passed by thirsty, searching for some cold drinks and stumbled upon this little Ceylonese gem. Once in, us alone first, we figured that we found a real Ipoh institution. The bar is the second oldest in Malaysia, still in its original style. Since the beginning the owner family is very engaged in local charity. Lovely. The owner couple, now in 2nd generation is super cute and friendly. We got ice cold beers served in frozen mugs. 😍. It was a great atmosphere as some other tourists and a small group of locals joined. We will definitely come back when in Ipoh. Highly to recommend to visit this unique bar. Step in through the swing door and feel like you went back to 1931. MUST VISIT!!! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
The oldest bar in Ipoh. Have own special atmosphere and the bar is a bit old and unique. t's not as clean or has a signature menu as other new bars, but if you like a traditional or old atmosphere, be sure to visit. Alcohol is mostly beer Price per person RM 20–40
Had planned to go to another bar, which was shut so popped in here and we're very glad that we did. The beer was cheap, the clientele friendly as was the service. Family owned since 1931, it is unspoilt and authentic. There are bar snacks available which we did not try as we had just eaten, but I have uploaded a picture of the menu. The music was mostly standards from the 50s and 60s, very signaling type songs. There was a very un PC poster on the wall, probably from the 60s or 70s which made me smile although some may take offense. Long may this lovely bar continue as it is and not bow to any pressure to change. Price per person RM 1–20 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

What a beautiful place. Love the atmosphere here. Every time I am in Ipoh I stop by here. It’s not only a great place to have a chat with the locals and have a fresh chilled beer, but it’s also a great place to slow down from our hectic life and dive into that historical vibe that the Sinhalese Bar has. Love it! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

A bar that is trapped in time. It is owned by a friendly elderly couple. A large Tiger costs RM19.50, not cheap but definitely worth every cent for the whole experience. Price per person RM 1–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Great old school bar in the centre of the City(the oldest in Ipoh). Walking through a saloon bar where it feels you are stepping back in time, where you can chat with locals and travellers alike. Friendly staff and a resident dog. I just had beer (Rm 19.5 for a large Tiger or 10 for a small) and no service charge add ins. Visited both nights I was staying. Price per person RM 40–60 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Lovely little bar with a fascinating history. The owner and his wife are friendly and accommodating, often pulling up a chair next to you and swapping stories from days gone by. I stopped here when I was caught in a rainstorm, and ended up meeting other travelers who found themselves in the same boat. Also there's a sweet dog here who loves to be pet. Highly recommend stopping by!

Happened in here by chance and am sure glad we did. It is a no frills old time bar with swinging bar doors at the entrance. Albert and his lovely wife Kamala are the nicest couple you could ever meet. Stop in and say Hi and enjoy a cold one. You will meet some very interesting people while you are there - everyone is so friendly. It's just like CHEERS!! ♥️

Fantastic old school bar, the owner Uncle Alfred, and all of the locals were fantastic people! Loved every second of my visit! Came back again almost a year later with my best Friends Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
During my recent trip to Ipoh, I had the privilege of stepping back in time at the historic Sinhalese Bar. Established in 1931, this iconic watering hole has been serving the people of Ipoh and its visitors for over 91 years. As I walked through its doors, I was immediately captivated by the charm, warmth, and character that have remained intact throughout the decades. The bar itself is adorned with vintage memorabilia, old photographs, and antique furniture that evoke a nostalgic atmosphere reminiscent of a bygone era. The wooden bar counter, a stunning centerpiece, has stood the test of time and bears witness to countless conversations, laughter, and shared memories.
