My children and I came to Stowe to celebrate my daughter’s 5th birthday. We needed to stop a local store near our stay to pick up a few odds and ends. Shaw’s was recommended. Unfortunately what i experienced makes me question why. I approached the deli counter and greeted the woman behind the counter with a “hi how are you?” before telling her what I needed. She rudely said “what do you need?” Thinking maybe she hadn’t heard me , I repeated myself. She said in an even more rude and aggressive tone “I said what do you need?” Me being one bit to let other people’s negativity upset my day I continued to be polite as she serviced me. I needed ham, Turkey and a few slices of cheese. She literally SLAMMED each of my items on the glass and had a very biased demeanor the entire time I stood there. It made me feel very uncomfortable. As if I wasn’t welcome in the store. It’s sad because the store itself was nice, had what I needed and the cashier who checked me out was nice but this older woman at the deli counter treated me very poorly. Overall not a pleasant experience.
It is a very basic kind of grocery store. I try to shop here because it's convenient as I drive by on my way home, but the selection is disappointing. They constantly drop products, for instance Flatbread frozen pizza (made locally). They carry a variety of out of state "cardboard tasting to me", frozen pizza. So many other products.. too many to name that they all of a sudden discontinue . No local produce and a small very limited selection of organic produce...(6 bins of organic carrots)? However so many other kinds of organic vegetables are never stocked. Very small selection of organic meats and none from our farms here in Vermont. Luckily there is Hannafords and Price Chopper in Morrisville 15 min. away.
I know Shaw's wants to promote their "Signature Brand" which would be fine if it was better quality. In response to your answer... It's interesting that you only referred to the store brand and didn't answer anything about lack of Vermont produce and products or why you constantly drop products. Because I have requested products over the years...nothing has ever changed.
The smallest of all the Shaw's I've been in, they are relatively well organized for their size. They have pretty much everything you need as a visitor to the area. I experienced this place as an InstaCart shopper and was able to find pretty much everything my customers had on their list, so I would give them a thumbs up. Also very friendly people, very helpful.
A classic small grocery store. Small isles with as much as they can fit. Store was clean, just crowded and a tight fit. They had a decent selection considering the size though. Overall a good store. With a reasonable sized parking lot. They had several lines open when we were there we didn't wait in line long.
Good luck if you want ice cream on a Sunday at 7:30pm. It will be melted by the time you reach the register I can understand being short staffed but this store definitely needs some improvements the line was wrapped around to the diary section this isn’t how a establishment should be ran. This store definitely needs some corporate presence around cause I see very poor management at the present
Sincerely
A concerned local
If I could give ZERO stars, I would. My husband went into Shaws with my 2.5 year old son today. Rhonda(who cashed them out) was incredibly rude to both my husband and my son. This isn’t the first time Rhonda has been rude while cashing one of us out. I expect way better service than this, especially being located in a popular resort town. Have the day you deserve, Rhonda!
