I shop at Shaw's often and most of the time my experience is wonderful however one employee (Carson) has always talked to me a bit too personally, he talks about what he does and looks at in his "special time". He also remarks about my body and my (very limited) cleavage. Having to hear all this when he is there makes my experience extremely uncomfortable. I don't think I can shop here again.
It is with great sadness that I am writing this review. We just left Shaws a little while ago. The manager, Angela, has always been a super sweet woman to me. For years she will pop up to say hello and how is my day. And if she doesn’t, I ask her. Today was extremely different. I have the Shaws app and I always clip deals. 8 out of 10 times they don’t ring up and it has to be adjusted. That happened this afternoon. As an example; the 3lb Shaws berries are supposed to be $10.39 and for the last 2-3 weeks I get home and realize it didn’t ring up. Today I told myself I wouldn’t let that happen. Once again, it rang up $12.99 and I asked for that and a bag of Shaws raspberries to be adjusted from $4.99 to $3.99. The cashier who we always go to needed help and Angela came over. I almost felt like I was being interrogated about the price adjustment EVEN THOUGH it was right there in front of her. Eventually it was fixed. As we were walking out, I realized the 2 big boxes of Black Forest gummies 40ct was supposed to be $20 and it rang up $24. Now, I could’ve asked the cashier to modify that too. But instead I went to the service desk so the woman that had her items on the belt didn’t have to wait any longer for us. Once I got there I showed the man the mistake. Angela then came over to the service desk and asked what was wrong. I told her and she made some kind of statement saying how some people say they “clip the deals” when they don’t, then ask for money off. BUT that’s impossible. Your phone will tell you whether or not you clipped it. I told her not all of the deals ring up properly and that for the last 2-3 weeks my berries have been ringing up $12.99 instead of $10.39. With 2 customers in back of me in the line and two people at the service desk, she says to me “we already fixed your problems at the register. What is it now?” I told her instead of making the woman wait who was in line I went over to the service desk to get the $4 I was owed from the gummies and I showed her the boxes and my phone. She literally rolled her eyes and made me feel like an idiot for wanting an additional $4 even though it was owed to me. Right there at register it has a paper up at every aisle about “Massachusetts consumer pricing.” Meaning every item is supposed to ring up CORRECTLY. It’s not my fault their app doesn’t match up at the register. And for her to be as nasty as she was, was both childish and unnecessary. Very disappointed today.
My experience at this store is absolutely abhorrent and I most likely will be calling corporate because of my experience. Every time I go to this Shaws, i get racially profiled by the manager on duty with the overly loud and obnoxious Bostonian accent. Every time she’s at the store I feel like I’m being watched and she’s very obvious about it, pretending to put away shopping baskets and coming very close to me making it very clear that she is watching me. I’ve now started carrying my receipt out in the open so that she knows that I’m NOT stealing and I should NOT under no circumstances have to do this! I do not feel welcome Nor comfortable at this store when she is around. I will be following up with this complaint, I should be able to shop while black in peace. I do not deserve to be treated like a criminal. She shouldn’t work there any more if she has personal biases against African Americans.
Went in to pick up free item and as usual it was out of stock. They will not give a rain check either. Most of the promo items are out of stock. So the management are clueless. Also make sure you check your bill - very often they charge you full price even when you have an active coupon for a lower price in your account. Shaws is way to expensive for everyday shopping so I only go in when I see a really good deal on something. Too often this is a waste of time.
I would have to say that was an awful experience. The only reason I shopped there was because I was also doing my mothers shopping. Right when you walk in your being stared at like okay 👌 then me and my gf were checking out on selfscan and the lady made us feel like we were stealing! She even moved where she was standing to get a better look: Mind you I work in a grocery store and I saw her re print my receipt for both transactions! I contacted the manager, ehhh not the best customer service I would say. Taking it a bit further.

I used to shop here when I first moved to Ashland. I grew tired of the lack of selection , high prices and outdated look. I had been shopping at Market Basket and it’s still my favorite grocery store but my wife went to Shaws and raved about the selection and prices. I went to Shaws to pick up some things and I also was surprised how much it had changed! Great selection, very good prices and the entire store was updated and looks great! I’ll still do most of shopping at Market Basket but I’ll also go to Shaws for certain items.
I worked at Shaw’s for three years and it was nothing short of traumatic. Every employee there is extremely underpaid and over worked. I would end my shifts drenched in sweat from sprinting back and forth between a register and the self checkout which fails to ever function properly. The J4U app for customer discounts is purposefully confusing so that people don’t get the discounts they deserve. Employees then have to bear the brunt of upset customers because of this disfuctional app. Throughout my tenure at Shaw’s I was entitled to four raises, each worth 25 cents added to the minimum wage. However, once the minimum wage in Massachusetts increased, management decided to wipe out our raises. This meant employees who had worked for 3,5,7, etc. years were getting the exact same pay as those who had just been hired. When I tried asking for a raise two weeks ago because I was being paid the same as newly hired workers- our store manager Ryan Brumley, belittled and bullied me for 20 minutes, before giving me the raise. Shaw’s has the resources to pay their employees fairly, but chooses not to. I have co-workers who we’re working full-time (40+ hours a week) and still making under 15 an hour. If Shaw’s Ashland had the ability to renovate their entire store last year, they should be able to properly compensate their workers. Albertsons (The Shaw’s parent company) full-year 2021 net income totaled 1.62 billion dollars, while its employees barely make ends meet. Store manager Ryan Brumley has done nothing but create a hostile work environment since he arrived at Ashland’s Shaws roughly 6 months after I was hired. He has cut hours and wages among all the employees, and is extremely biased against female workers. My title at Shaw’s is called CSR. CSR’s make up a handful of workers who run the front end of the store. When Ryan came he barely interacted with me, he directed all his questions and comments to my male counterparts. Similar things have happened to managers working below Ryan. Many of the men would be praised by Ryan for their hard work, while the female managers were mostly ignored. Overall, Shaw’s is an awful place to both work and shop.
They have recently redone the flooring and rearranged a bit - looks great! The younger staff need better management and supervision - I always seem to find myself in awkward situations where a staff member is loudly (playfully?) jokong around at another staff member in a way that should remain in the break room. I've had cashiers roughly handling my groceries at check out (think airport when you check a bag and they *throw* it on the conveyor belt....right in front of you)

Run of the mill Shaw’s. Will say, the store was very clean and well lit. The aisles were stocked full, and the staff were very helpful with the couple of questions had when looking for certain items. The lines were a bit long though, and likely due to the fact that the self-checkout area wasn’t signed very well. With the small order my party had, we likely could’ve skipped the in-person checkout and done it ourselves. I will say though, this is a problem I have had in other Shaw’s stores, and seems to be only in stores that have added the self-checkout areas by removing traditional registers. Overall, great store. If needed I will likely stop here again.

People do not follow the one way aisles. Almost everything is more expensive here than other grocery stores nearby. The store is clean and lots to choose from. Over $100 for 3 bags of groceries... Update/ no more one way aisles. Good sales. Clean store. Upgrade to 4 stars. The reason for 4 instead of 5 is Shaw's is still more expensive than other stores!
