We traveled to Mineral Wells for a girls trip and ghost walk. This gem is located in The Crazy Water Hotel. Our server was new but did a great job. We did not have reservations so I assume that is why we were seated in the hotel lobby. Nonetheless, one of the best steaks I have ever had along with a side of polenta. You must also try the side of mushrooms as a side and the risotto balls as an appetizer. For desert, you must try the blue bell ice cream with touch of sea salt. We had the BEST EXPERIENCE there last Saturday night! We were in Mineral Wells for a visit to the Crazy House spa. Our camping plans were foiled by the rain, so we started looking for a place for dinner. We stumbled upon a 5:15 reservation for Second Bar + Kitchen. We received a glass of champagne while we waited on our table and found out it was only their second night open! How lucky we were to snag a reservation! We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner! Our server was super helpful. We absolutely loved our meal. The Brussels sprouts and shishito peppers were so delicious! Our pizza and mushrooms were a perfect pair. The buttermilk pie was absolutely delicious! The restaurant is gorgeous! We can't wait to go back. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
We had reservation tonight for 7 showed up and were seated in a waiting area with a drink menu until our table was ready which took less than 5 min. The waitstaff was professional and nice as well as knowledgeable about the menu and all our questions. I had the sweet potatoes and grilled chicken breast while my boyfriend had the steak. My chicken was perfectly cooked very flavorful and paired perfectly with the sweet potatoes and our wine. My boyfriend asked for the steak medium and now retreats it even though full of flavor and very good in his open wished he opened for medium rare. We had a bottle of white wine, the black truffle fries for an appetizer and dessert ( the Texas chocolate cake- if you like fudge this is a go to) two entrees and the total was $115 before tip. For the service, food and atmosphere this was well worth it for date night. And to be honest probably the best dinning experience in Mineral wells. The cocktails were great, the Lavender infused Gin was amazing. The food would have rated higher if the Burger wasn't overcooked, crumbly and dry. The Cowboy Ribeye was very good, the Green Chile Polenta was lifeless and Bland. The appetizers were great, the shishito peppers were good but not blistered, Brussel Sprouts were great though, and the Fried pickles were very tasty! We visited during the Holiday Season so perhaps some staff were on holiday. the atmosphere was a little pedestrian, booths were too high, legs couldn't touch the floor. The restaurant could use some help in the ambiance department, I felt like I was sitting in a Hotel Lobby. Service was sub-par, finished plates left on the table, waited about 20 minutes to try and get another drink to go with dinner. I read the other reviews and was excited to try this restaurant, it's exciting to have a restaurant like this in Mineral Wells. I will try going there again after the Holidays, I love supporting small businesses and quality restaurants. I would like to add that it would have great to have a choice of Crazy water, a flight of Crazy 1,2,3,4 or Sparkling Crazy water would have really been a nice touch, being that the restaurant is IN the Crazy Water hotel! This place is an amazing oasis. In the middle of tough dining options. The food is wonderful. The staff is awesome. Brian, our waiter was very knowledgeable and a very nice person. We went here the night before Christmas Eve and had an outstanding evening. All of the dishes that were recommended were amazing. We had Shishido peppers, Parmesan truffle fries Fried pickles to begin with… They were all amazing. The mains are table had were ribeye, warm beach, salad, and salmon. Each of them was prepared properly and delicious. The desserts were amazing. Cheesecake and buttermilk pie were beyond amazing. Thank you to Shelby for getting our family in on such a busy night. The hotel’s restaurant Second Bar & Kitchen is run by Executive Chef and James Beard nominee David Bull. Bull and his family moved to Mineral Wells after twenty-plus years of owning and operating many leading restaurants in Texas. In 1999 he shaped the Driskill Grill into one of Austin’s best restaurants and competed on the Food Network's "Iron Chef America”. The restaurant is part of La Corsha Restaurant Partners responsible for managing the Stoneleigh Hotel and its Bolla restaurant in Dallas and the St. Anthony hotel in San Antonio, where Bull was Executive Chef. I started the evening meal with a Passionfruit Paloma made with the fruit, lime, grapefruit soda, and rosemary agave switching the Mescal to vodka. Sitting next to me was a friendly newlywed couple from Oklahoma who gave me all sorts of sightseeing tips for Mineral Wells. This was the wife’s second trip to this town, and she recommended the mineral baths at the Bath House and Spa down the road. Alas, they were booked solid and due to close the following day because of the incremental freezing weather. It was 27 degrees when I arrived. I normally don’t keep red meat at home, so I splurged on a NY Striploin, served on a wooden cutting board. Made to medium perfection, the 14 ounces were gone in no time. My server recommended Troublemaker, a red mix of Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Zinfandel, and Petite Sirah. The smoothness and full-bodied flavor blew me away. I never heard about this wine; now it’s on my “to buy” list. The chef made me crispy rounds of hashbrowns, reminding me of my grandmother’s potato latkes on the inside, crunchy and stringy with just the right amount of chew. For the side, I had the farm-to-market veggies: cooked butternut squash and broccolini and a dash of fresh arugula mixed with a dijonnaise sauce. That worked surprisingly well for warm vegetables. For dessert, I had chocolate cherry cheesecake. It tasted like billowy mousse chocolate with bits of dark chocolate. The real cherries on top were glazed in gelatin sweet enough not to interfere with the cake's richness. The restaurant is open Thursdays through Sundays. Got to enjoy dinner here, one thing we noticed almost immediately upon arrival is that this place has what this counties restaurants and what neighboring counties restaurants lack, and that is, discipline. Highly attentive and anticipatory wait staff eager to make each encounter pleasurable. No need went unmet, and most of them went unsaid (new cutlery, water glasses filled, the staff offered to have my steak cut in the back for me as I was holding my infant). Chef Bull brought us our Burrata + Brisket…. When I die, bury me with this dish. It is unctuous and jam packed with flavor and depth. The green Chile polenta is great for those that don’t find black pepper to be the height of their spice tolerance, also rich and creamy. The cocktail menu is delightful, we tried three separate cocktails that were all vibrant, airy, and refreshing. None were overwhelming. The meal ended with the Pork Belly BLT , meticulously constructed. Melt in your mouth pork belly. Perfectly toasted bread. And the NY striploin. I’m thrilled to see the combination of elevated cuisine with accessibility in terms of dish pricing. For this area this restaurant is not out of reach. We are eager to go back and try more of the menu, and of course are excited to see what’s in the works for breakfast/brunch. Our inaugural dining experience at Second Bar + Kitchen @ The Crazy Water Hotel was truly exceptional, and we hope it's the first of many. Team member Elizabeth and the support staff provided top-notch table service, complemented by the fabulous and delicious Thanksgiving meal crafted by the renowned Chef David Bull for their prix fixe menu. The food boasts perfect seasoning and beautiful presentation, with standouts like the corn fritters with jalapeno and maple cream cheese starter, as well as the fried Brussels sprouts side dish—both worth the price of admission. The atmosphere, decor, and table settings create a casual yet elegant vibe, making you feel at ease. We eagerly anticipate trying the weekend brunch, wellness shot, and, most importantly, their pizza! We feel fortunate to have such an incredible restaurant in our area where not only the food but also the prices contribute to our happiness. Let's continue to support local! We live an hour from Mineral Wells but wanted to drive there to try their newest restaurant Second Bar + Kitchen. It was well worth our drive. The atmosphere is wonderful inside the Historic Crazy Water Hotel. The menu choices all had a unique flair and our food was outstanding. But best of all was our service. Our server, Lilly was so welcoming, polite and attentive that I can’t say we’ve been treated better in a 4 Star restaurant. I highly recommend trying Second Bar + Kitchen, I know we will be returning soon. Meal type Brunch Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
