I love Sal e pepe but the last couple of times we got take out it wasn’t good. Last order, Chicken francese was cut up in pieces and put in a tiny container so it stewed in the sauce. It was just inedible and not sure why they did it that way. Otherwise the food is usually very good.

Food was good. We sat in front of the door in the dinning room. No curtain, frosted gloss or shade in the door which resulted in the light shinning in my guest all through dinner. You would think that they could fix this quite easily, by covering the glass with a decal from Home Depot or placing a curtain or drape over the glass since there exists a curtain rod on the door. Had a bad recommendation to try this place. Took my step dad here for his birthday with the family and we were disappointed. None of us could understand how people genuinely enjoy this place with all of the other great Italian restaurants in CT. 2 of the beers that I tried to order were out. Service was slow. Sauce was overly sweet and mediocre (can genuinely cook better at home). The atmosphere was dated and depressing. Prices were offensively high for the quality. Not a single reason to return. It is pretty clear to me that people who rate this well either do not get out a lot or, when they do, do not drive outside of Newtown. Try Quattro Pazzi in Fairfield if you want to really enjoy a good Italian meal. It will be well worth your drive, time and money. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 1

We had a great dinner last time we were here last year & decided to return. Tonight wasn’t that good. I ordered the filet and about 1/2 of it was all fat. I brought it to the waiters attention. The bill comes and I’m still charged the full price after only eating 1/2 ! We won’t be returning. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $50–100 Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
We were in the area and decide to stop for dinner. We also had read an article about how great the food was in the ct magazine. We sat at the bar and order cocktails a Sal e Pepe I ordered a cucumber and chill. My cucumber and chill was served with bits of ice which is a big no no in the cocktail world. We order appetizers the potatoe and Angus bites which were delicious, also we had the mussels with gorganzola which I'm still on the fence about. Dinner was eggplant Parmesan and homemade pasta with Bolognese sauce. The eggplant parmesan was ok but the pasta tasted like Chef Boy Ardee sauce from a can. I had the striped bass with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach. It was no big deal and was edible. I've had much better. To the wine order, which was a big fiasco. What we sampled and what we received was unknown. With several returns we abandoned the hunt for the super Tuscan wine we had originally sampled. I must say that the waiter Zack was a gentleman, patient and very apologetic. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $50–100 Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3

This was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We were given the choice of seating area and were pleased to be at a table. Shannon took care of us while providing training to a new waitress - a very nice exchange. Delighted to have the bonus of the scratch off card, we knew we'd be having the pistachio cheese cake for dessert even before ordering our meals. Specials had great choices from which we chose Grouper with request for double vegies and Ragout with sausage. Always love the Baby Mista to start the meal and delicious coffee to finish with our dessert. The Montepulciano red wine 1/2 carafe was wonderful; and JW Red scotch with a BigCube a pleasure. Surrounded by efficiency and lots of happy diners, we absolutely enjoyed the wonderful meal and evening. We'll be back again soon.
