Generally Rye is great, bottomless mamosas, shakshuka, brunch burger are all delicious. Unfortunately, I've had a few experiences, particularly with the smoked salmon Benedict and slow service that I can't give Rye 5 stars. I wish I could because it has a great menu and liquor selection but I just feel they could use 1 more wait staff. I've seen the owner present a few time and he is nice and helpful. Maybe spends too much time with guests at the expense of helping the staff. Service Dine in Meal type Brunch Price per person $30–50 Food: 4 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Shakshuka

This particular entry is in regard to The Garage at Rye, which is the satellite business, adjacent to the restaurant. They are a gourmet coffee/breakfast place in the morning and into the afternoon. Keeping with the standards of the restaurant, The Garage is a great place to hang out and enjoy coffees, pastries, breakfast sandwiches and toasts . They are definitely worth the trip! EDIT:(Initial review starts with “First…” RYE has stepped up their game, from food (verity/prep/taste) to atmosphere! Happy hour is SO much needed and appreciated…and live music seals that deal. Try the fried chicken and southern greens…best around! Also-the outdoor improvements (trees/seating/fire/heating/etc) are just what was needed. Well done RYE! First, we frequent RYE in hopes of supporting local businesses, and enjoying good food. Staff/Service=somewhere between excellent, and non-existent. We’ve been served quickly at times, and forgotten another. Food=same. It can be excellent, or barely edible. We’ve tried most everything- and food being so subjective, you’ll just have to try for yourself. One of the best local fish fries you can enjoy (but THE most deplorable coleslaw you might ever taste!!) Brunch is great. Scallop “starter” is amazing! Drink specials are a real bargain!! Atmosphere= Lighting is good, not too dark/light. Feels cramped at times. We had to leave once because the noise was unbearable, but usually it’s manageable. The noise is not so much the issue of the business, but more that of those who cannot control the volume of their mouth🙄 Overall= pockets of perfection, and areas of disappointment. It really seems to be hit/miss.
This place is the pinnacle of exceptional food in Elmira. This restaurant and bar could stand on its own in any major metro area. Definitely recommend brunch, and outside of that the shepherd's pie is simply incredible. Service Dine in Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Tonight, Jon and I went to dinner at The Rye Bar in Elmira to celebrate his birthday. From the moment we arrived we were truly impressed. The relaxing lounge area seemed to welcome us inside. As we arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation time, we enjoyed a cocktail at the lengthy, well stocked bar. Once seated, we were overwhelmed with the lengthy selection of beers, wines and liquors available. By far, one of the most complete bar menus I've ever seen. For our meal, I ordered the local Friday night favorite meal of fish fry. Jon had the lamb Shepherds Pie. What I was very welcome to learn was the fish fry was offered in 3 different sized portions. I ordered the smallest, 7 oz., which was perfect! How many times have you gone out for fish fry to receive a size of fish large enough for a family of four?! Our food was delicious and we ended our meal with a very satisfying piece of chocolate lava cake, equipped with a birthday candle, for dessert. Yum! If you've never been, try dining at Rye. You won't be sorry you did. 😊 Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $50–100 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Fish Fry

Met a friend last night for dinner. I ordered a burger, medium well done, and it was very well done. My husband ordered a chicken Cesar salad...unlike neither of us had ever seen...whole pieces of romaine lettuce on one side of his plate with a few croutons & a little dressing and a small area of cut up chicken. Definitely not a meal! Our friend ordered some French fries to be shared as an appetizer. The fries came with the rest of the food and were cold! Drinks were good, but service not so...we had to ask several times for additional drinks and ice. We were in town visiting...our friend said she'd only been there for happy hour...we might try Rye again for happy hour but not so sure about dinner.
