Restaurant Tokyo is an established local restaurant popular with those seeking out wild river fish meal. We used to ate very fresh & nicely steamed wild river fish like patin & tengkalan in many previous visits.
However in our most recent visit, we didn’t order fish but just three simple dishes for dinner - sweet & sour pork, hot plate taufu, and dried buttermilk prawns. The dishes were just average at best. The cooking quality standard has deteriorated probably due to change in chef as the sweet & sour pork was lousy - pork was not marinated, the sauce was bland. Regular dishes like these should be consistent. The dried buttermilk prawns was also a let down though it looks pretty good, the buttermilk taste was actually bland & the prawns though fresh have some aftertaste like it was washed with some alkaline water ….
Waiting time is longer than usual. Prices are above average for Jerantut but portion are generous.
I hope the fresh wild river fish remains good in future visits, otherwise no more going back …. 🤔
