Candied yam latte was so delicious!! I had ordered the rose cardamom latte, but some lady took it, and then they were out of the cardamom syrup. :( so they let me take the lady’s latte (mocha latte, which was good!) and made me whatever else I wanted, which was so kind! And that’s why I ended up with a candied yam latte. And honestly I am so glad I got to try it! When I got to the bottom there was real yam at the bottom! Very impressed. And the staff was so nice!! Also.. free wifi! Just no outlets. (That I could find) I recommend!

Coffee is decent. When they have it. Several times I've gone in and they don't have any drip coffee to serve. It's usually just one person working so it takes forever. I'd forgive this happening once or twice but its happened enough where I don't know if you can call yourself a coffee shop if you don't have any coffee to serve. Pastries are pretty good, they come from elsewhere. Worth noting that they can't heat them up. I'd only recommend if you have the time to wait and only want drinks from the espresso bar.
Edit: they've hired more staff, so service has improved. Their cups leak now though. Probably a batch defect, so will hopefully resolve eventually.
Edit edit: they're back to not having drip coffee. Watered down espresso is not an alternative. And the cups still leak. Over it, there are two way better spots in walking distance that are consistently excellent

One of my favorite coffee shops in the area. Free drip coffee with purchase of their beans. They offer half caff beans and orders, which is hard to come by.
I’ve been coming for their decent cold brew.
Nice shop, though very limited seating.

Love this spot! I come here about twice a week. The ambiance is perfect for work or relaxation, and the staff is warm and welcoming. However, management is really letting this spot down -- chronic understaffing/poor training of new staff leads to occasional errors with drinks, and the most disappointing is the random closures (been here when there was a random 11am closure, a 1pm early closure and a day where they were straight up just closed cause lack of staff). Management needs to get it together. Hire more staff. Create more incentives for staff/whatever else is necessary to keep this black-owned/community-centered coffee spot in the neighborhood

Cute location and decent coffee, but management is definitely letting this spot down. Either it's been understaffed, out of cups/lids, or staff being trained during busy working hours.
There are several great cafes in the neighborhood already. Hoping this one can get it together.

I’m in town for a work trip. I stopped here on my way to my job site to get a coffee and a croissant. The croissant selection was great and as I waited for my latte, I looked around. This place is beautiful. If I had more time, I would definitely have a seat and just chill. The colors are very soothing and there’s a excellent selection of plants some hanging from the ceiling some on the floor. The staff is friendly, welcoming, and they make a excellent latte.

Skip this place and head to Sweet Adeline (it’s been there for years), one block to the South, or El Tiny, one block east, or Raza Cafe, two blocks north - you’ll be happier with the choices and the friendlier attitude. This spot is new, and the owner hasn’t caught on to the local vibe of acceptance and kindness: I got a hot chocolate here yesterday. I asked for no added sugar and the kind Asian guy working there didn’t add sugar syrup. It was delicious. I went back there this morning. A kind black woman took my order. A blonde barista dude overheard and loudly and angrily said “I have to add syrup, I can’t make it without sugar.” Everyone looked up and stared. I said “oh they made it for me yesterday without sugar, and it was delicious,” to which he responded “he doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s not supposed to make it without sugar.” Uh ok dude. Way to angrily turn away a customer and embarrass them for asking for no sugar. All the best to you! Are you working for the sugar lobby? I’m joking, but Jeez. I’m giving you a one star to help you get a little perspective - because it sounded like you were the owner.
