What a cute little place! The atmosphere was eclectic and very clean. I was promptly greeted as soon as I walked in the door by the host and a couple of other servers. I ordered the lunch ribs plate. Got it with beans and coleslaw. The ribs were St. Louis - competition style ribs. Super flavorful & juicy. Loved the coleslaw. It was vinegar based with a little bit of mayo, my favorite! And the beans were just a wonderful accompaniment to everything. Can’t have bbq w/o beans! My favorite part about this place was that they have four different types of bbq sauce to choose from. I used every single one. But, my favorite was the habanero bbq sauce, so damn good! This was my first time here and I can’t wait to come back to this place. My wife and I have been to RJs many times before--we had our second date here, they catered our wedding...you could say we're fans. Excellent food, both their barbecue and the sides. I almost always go for brisket, but my wife got the Reuben--one of the best Reubens she's had in awhile. The atmosphere is great; it's very much the corner barbecue place, but clean, warm, and inviting. The staff is fantastic--our server Vickie was friendly, welcoming, and always there when we needed her, without being intrusive. It was also fast--we placed our order and our food was on our table within minutes. Overall a great place we hit up regularly. Great value for lunch. Hade Po boys. We shared street corn and potato salad. Recommend them both. It was only $20.00 plus tip for 2 people Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes Potato Salad

Ordered burnt ends, potato salad, beans, cheesy corn and macaroni and cheese and the smoked salmon. The fish was very dry but had a good flavor. Meat was very fatty, potato salad had a decent flavor but didn't look good. It was very dry. I was not impressed. Also ordered take out and it arrived cold in smashed boxes. Our server was nice, and we really liked her. But, the food was all below average. The brisket had little flavor and seemed like it had been re-heated. The Ribs were... Meh. The fries were actually very good. I would go back, but just for the fries. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $10–20 Food: 2 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

I first found RJ's in the phone book while looking for places to eat on an out-of-town trip. After eating there once, we ate there the next two nights before coming back home. Every time I come to KCMO, I go to RJ's. LOVE the burnt ends! LOVE their sauces! Bones slid right out of the ribs tonight. 😋 Check 'em out. You'll be glad you did. Excellent food and service! Will definitely be back. The sauce is amazing. The baked beans are thick and yummy. Highly recommend the corn nuggets. Can't wait for the outdoor patio to open Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Came here because of restaurant week. Favorite thing was the bread pudding and that still needed some work. Almost needed a knife to cut pieces off. But had amazing flavor. The sandwich was good. Half chicken not pictured has juicy in the thighs but dry in the breast. Had excellent smoke flavor. Salad was just a joke Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
Excellent Kansas City barbecue. This restaurant was on diners, drive-ins, and dives, which initially attracted me. In a city full of great barbecue, RJs bison empanadas are something unique. I would also highly recommend trying all the different sauces, especially the spicy and Carolina sauce. I got burnt ends and ribs, which were lights out, and I like the cheesy corn better than beans. I’ll be back again for sure, and it’s been one of my favorite haunts for years. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $30–50 Recommended dishes Tend Fries
