We chanced upon this lovely restaurant after looking at Google reviews. It was out of sight from the beach and hidden beside the JW Marriot compound. We regretted not finding this place earlier! The food was the best we have had during our entire trip - let the pictures do the talking! Green curry had a really good spicy kick and loaded with fresh ingredients, fried pork was tender, mango sticky rice was absolutely delicious! The food portions were generous and presented well. Service was also quick and warm. We really enjoyed our meal and we hope if there’s a chance, we would like to return to have the food again.
Phen is a family owned restaurant just outside the Marriott resort boundary wall. Head to the beach and turn right. It's signposted and is just a short walk up a track. I think the food is actually better than the hotel and at a fraction of the cost, plus the family get your money rather than a big hotel company.
We ordered chicken satay, chicken pad Thai, sticky rice, a mango rice and two pineapple & gin cocktails. The bill was 620 baht! (approx £15)
To clarify expectations, this isn't a marbled floor modern building with air conditioning etc, this is a traditional timber built Thai restaurant at the edge of a jungle...but better for it!

Mango Sticky Rice
If you're staying at the JW Marriott next door, then make sure you come here. The food is delicious, and a third of the price of the resort.
To get here, walk towards the beach until you get to the "road" between the room/restaurants and the grass/beach area. Take a right at the "road" and walk to the edge of the resort. At the last villa, take a right and you'll see the big Phen sign at the end of the dirt path.
The staff are friendly and helpful and the menu is very extensive. The food is made fresh and the place is very clean and tidy with a beautifully designed pebble/concrete floor. It's undercover in case it rains and the eating is large, comfortable and sturdy. They also offer a laundry service for 80 THB / kg.

Excellent family-owned spot for lunch or dinner. Very affordable (100-200 bhat for most dishes) and friendly. Also offers laundry for 80 bhat/kg and returns folded and packaged the following day.

Meeting Penh and eating at her restaurant felt like coming home. She is very nice and the food is like ‚Mom’s Food‘ - cooked with great care and absolutely tasty 😋. Aroiiii mak mak.

Super nice local restaurant just around a few minutes walk from JW Marriott. I had the Paad Si Yiew and my wife had a Panang steamed fresh fish. Both were excellent.
It’s a little challenging to find the place from the Marriott. If you face the hotel from the beach then walk left to the end of the hote grounds there’s a gap into what looks like wooded area. The restaurant is on your right up a path there. They are still doing reconstruction work post-covid but the food is excellent and Phen and her family are awesome. Highly recommend.

Very kind service, nice atmosphere, tasty food and good prices. Definitely recommend! To get here you need to come through the road that crosses JW Marriott near the beach - not the road farther from the beach as google maps suggests.

Very quiet during our evening visits, which is surprising given the proximity to he JW and the fact that food served here is rather nice (although not spicy enough for me, despite asking). Big selection of dishes.

Nice thai restaurant just outside of the JW Marriott area where you can get thai food for just a fraction of the price. Very friendly personnel. There is a small playground where the kids can play while they wait for the food.
