I hadn't visited Old Town Cafe in about 12 years. The atmosphere is a very cozy, small town cafe vibe. Very Bellingham & I love it. While the menu selection isn't my favorite, I selected french toast (love French toast). It comes advertised as sourdough and it gives it a different taste. Not my favorite of French toast, but taste is going to be different person to person. It was prepared well and the real maple syrup it was served with really elevated it. Bacon was cooked perfectly. My partner ordered the huevos rancheros and he absolutely loved it. This dish can be hit or miss at restaurants, so it was awesome that Old Town Cafe has a great version! He said it was flavorful and original. The only thing I'd change if I could, would have been to sit farther away from the door with the cold coming in from outside. They did a great job building a vestibule of sorts to cut down significantly on drafts and for that I was thankful! I visited the restaurant for the first time and ordered a hamburger and soup. The food was fresh and delicious. The daily special soup was amazing. Also, dessert was delicious, too. Waitress was very kindly! recommend this place, and if I have a chance, I will visit again. Thank you very much! Have a wonderful day, all staff! Vegetarian gravy and biscuits - what???!!!!! Awesome!!! The cafe offers many vegetarian and vegan items. Even though it's not a vegetarian restaurant, they have a huge number of items that a vegetarian or vegan would love. We have eaten here many times since we moved to Bham and we have always left happy and full-bellied. Highly recommended!! Great home style food. Everything tastes like it was made from scratch, from the soups to the muffins. Coffee so good it reminds me of Italy. Service was prompt but never pushy. Don't miss the soup of the day! Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Grilled Cheese Sandwich
I love this spot. The food and beverages are always excellent. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. If you go on a weekend morning, prepare to wait for a long time (sometimes an hour or more). They don’t take reservations by phone, so you have to wait in person to get in. The food is worth the wait if you can spare the time. Service Dine in Meal type Brunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Update: 2/15/23. First time with a 3 year old. He was entertained by the toys prior to sitting down. Kids French toast was devoured. Coffee was strong and tasty. Food was excellent. Love this place since they have vegan and vegetarian options. Previous review: Had an excellent lunch—soup of the day and falafel wrap…outstanding. Wife had soup and salad. A lovely local cafe for breakfast and lunch or brunch in the neighborhood. There are some metered paid parking on the street my friend and I were lucky to have the parking spot right away as soon as we arrived to the area we also came at the right time so the wait time was basically minute. the wait staff was very friendly, she give us a couple of minutes to read through the menu before we were ordering. my friend was having trouble selecting an item so the staff gave some very good suggestion on what to order. I ordered the Lumberjane omelette as recommended by a blog I read. we enjoyed our meals and may come again in the future. the atmosphere and Decor were so lovely. We enjoyed staying around and chat over the drinks. however, by the time we finished our meal there was already a line waiting at the door so we just paid and left to not occupying the spot. One of our favourite brunch spots! The food is delicious, high quality & from local farms / suppliers. Sooo many vegetarian and vegan options. The tofu Rueben is probably my favourite sandwich ever!! The French toast is also fantastic, as are the biscuits with gravy or their amazing jam. It can get very busy on weekends and they only have a paper waitlist so you actually have to be present and wait outside the restaurant. It would be great if they got an online waitlist system! Good diner food with a mission. Love that they try to use local foods. For a weekend the wait was expected. I waited around 15 minutes when arriving at 1pm. I think they were understaffed felt like had to chase down the waitress often. Street parking or you can pay for parking at a lot nearby.
