I have always loved the food cafeteria in Roy’s Ocean Mart, but boy have I been excited to try Okan when it opened. I am above the moon! The Obento Karaage was so delicious! Every aspect was well thought out, from the presentation of the perfectly crisp chicken thighs, all juicy and flavorful…. To the pickled vegetables and yummy japanese themed potato salad, and not to mention the rice, so yummy paired with the chicken. Last but not least, I ordered a strawberry fruit mochi…. It was so delicious, I exclaimed out loud when I found the whole strawberry inside that delectable cream, that is covered with this perfectly kneeded strawberry mochi dough. 10/10, you must try this place!

I lived in Japan for 7 years, and these Japanese treats are great. Japan doesn't typically have fruit in their mochi snacks, but this is a great compromise between traditional Japanese snacks and American taste. Also, their lemon cakes take me back to Japan. The shape, size, texture and flavor are just like the lemon cakes they sell in some of the train stations in Japan. I also hade the banana roll cake, and it tastes just like the banana roll cakes in Japan. The macha tiaramsu is also quite excellent if you like macha. I haven't tried the cake yet, but I bought one for a friend and they absolutely loved it. Japanese snacks are also healthier than most American snacks and not as so overly sweet like a lot of American snacks. I recommend this place for anyone that is curious about Japanese snacks, likes Japanese culture, or just like great tasting snacks.
Homemade mochi treats? Yum! If you haven't tried mochi this is a great place to start, fresh and authentic. If you already love mochi this will be a favorite.
If only I had taken a photo before we ate most of them. The bears were very cute for Father's Day!
We were so fortunate to come across Okan Japanese Treats at the Saturday Market at The Monarch in Ogden. These are the epitome of Japanese desserts with a modern twist! First, they are so visually appealing, but they are just as delicious as they look! We bought three different kinds of mochi: strawberry (bunny), orange (kitty), and kiwi (frog). The mochi is soft and delicious and filled with fresh fruit and cream. We also enjoyed the Matcha Tiramisu which was soft, creamy, and delicious. I can’t wait to try all their other desserts!
