I can't understand why some of these reviews skew so badly. My wife and I simply wanted some cod cakes and cold beer. Walked all around this town and couldn't find one place that sold these cod cakes. We walked into O Monumental, spoke to this sweet old man, and finally had what we were craving. They're light and fluffy, with the perfect ratio of cod to potato. I like them with more parsley, but that's just me. Overall, I'd be back. Cant believe the -revues. we had an amazing lunch. The staff are attentive and the food so tasty. everything has a price from bread to olives but that is normal in a tourist destination take a chance and enjoy! Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person €15–20
Just had lunch there and ordered some sardines (not for me) and asked for a Chicken paella for me. The person I was with assured me that the sardines were fine “but nothing special”. The chicken paella was first served with the chicken extremely pink the the middle (with a couple of pieces really woefully undercooked). I returned the paella which appeared to be just shoved in an oven for a bit longer with some extra liquid. When it can back the chicken was less pink but still undercooked. Quite frankly there’s enough choice of other restaurants- choose a different one to this
I have been to this restaurant numerous times and cannot really complain about the food.I found the menu clear and the cost clearly shown. What I find annoying is that some times the owner will accept payment by credit card and other times not. It was a annoying that my wife had to go to the ATM to get cash to pay for our meal. Lovely Sunday lunch of Dourada and clams. Homemade chips and lovely salad washed down with bottle of vinho verde. We sat in the back street and not the square which was run by 2 friendly waiters. I know there are mixed reviews but our experience was great! Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person €30–35
Unfortunately not many good things to say , apart of the beer and the bread . The octopus salad was taste less and was not what we aspect as a octopus salad , the prawns were covered in oil ,and the monkfish and prawns skewer was to well done . The waiters a boy and a girl didn't know exactly what they where doing .on the top no card payment, apparently the machine fell on the floor . Never again
Monumental waiting times. Took 1.5 hours for the meals to arrive. Food was not bad but after being forced to wait for such a long time it doesnt help much in the end. No appologies were offered and the food did not even come at the same time for everybody. At least you could give customers a heads up when the kitchen is work overloaded. We witnessed multiple customers complaining about excessive waiting times. I cannot recommend and will not come back.
Wonderful seafood and fish, all very fresh. Typical well served and tasty Portuguese food. Nice and very available staff. Good alive music. Everything was very satisfying. We will go there again.

The service was terrible , no menu with prices and had to pay cash. Never again will we go to this "RESTAURANT "
Very good food, good service, fast, clean and quite reasonable prices for a meal on the plaza.
