Amazing food with wonderful service! Coffee was fresh and yummy. We ordered cinnamon roll french toast and a plate of sides which included light toast (homemade in their bakery on site!) crispy bacon and wonderfully crunchy but soft in the center house potatoes. If you're in the area I would highly recommend stopping in for breakfast! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
A breakfast of eggs, today and sausage is anything but typical restaurant fare at Megg's. The excellent sausage is made at a local meat market, and the eggs are very fresh and cooked in whatever style you please. But what really sets them apart is the selection of homemade breads for the toast. I think there were 9 or 10 options, and it was hard to make a choice. I can definitely recommend the apple cinnamon, but I plan to go back and try the others. I have previously had the eggs Benedict served on a crab cake instead of an English muffin, and it was scrumptious. We got outstanding service from Courtney. She mixes good service with the sort of friendly warmth you hope for in a cozy cafe. That is not to imply Megg's is some run-of- the-mill country diner. It's not. But it has the feel of a small town place even though it is in city near a major hospital. If you are in Temple at breakfast or lunchtime, give Megg's a try. And if you don't have time to sit down and eat, grab a muffin, scone or other treat from their bakery. So I don’t generally leave reviews but this one is exceptional. I have been to Megg’s Cafe several times and the food and atmosphere is always good but today was the real deal. Our server, Courtney was everything- pleasant, responsive, timely and full of zest. She understood the assignment- I am very meticulous about my food and service and she was able to communicate to the cook staff my needs. This lady has superb skills in hospitality. If you looking for great local fresh food with a friendly atmosphere and great service- stop by and ask for Courtney 😉. Edit: 2-23-24 visited for breakfast and service was great and food even better so bumping another star up/ Edit: new visit on 9-14-21. Service was much better and the poutine was fabulous!. Bumping up to 3 stars. Thanks Previous: This was probably our worst experience ever with Meggs. The restaurant wasn’t very crowded but we did have to wait for a table. There was one other couple sitting in the waiting area, so we had a seat and waited. Several others came in and added their names to the list. Then a couple come in and are told that there’s an outside table available if they would like it. I would have loved an outside table but since I didn’t ask for one I decided to wait. I checked my name and was told there were a few people in front of me. When I questioned this they said it would only be about 15 minutes. Well, we had already been waiting about 30 minutes so when they called others that came in after us we got up and left. We went to another restaurant and were sitting with our food when we got the call that our table was ready. Our brunch experience at Meggs Cafe left mixed impressions. The staff's warm welcome was appreciated, but the Island mimosa fell short in sweetness for my taste, leading me to leave it unfinished. The speedy arrival of our food was a plus, but the potatoes lacked seasoning and were disappointingly hard. The chicken sausage, unfortunately, was rubbery and challenging to cut with a fork. On a positive note, the fried egg was satisfactory, and the Brown Sugar Pecan pancakes, while large and soft, felt like they were missing a special touch—perhaps a brown sugar bourbon glaze could enhance the flavor. Despite some highlights, the overall dining experience didn't compel me to revisit; it seems my cousins may have overestimated the allure of this establishment. One star is even too much!!! The first time we ate there it was mediocre (at best) but we like to give places a second change. HUGE MISTAKE! My husband and I had the WORST meal we’ve ever had in our life. Let’s start with the wait times, it took almost 10 minutes just for the server to come over. Another 5 minutes just to get drinks. After placing the order another 35 minutes to get the food. I was in my scrubs and had to go to work after. It’s a Monday morning, not even a weekend. Once we got the food my omelette was barely warm and the bacon was raw! I mean raw like straight from the package. I was chatting and didn’t realize until it was in my mouth. I consider myself a lady but I was forced to spit it into my napkin. I was embarrassed but I had no choice. My husband steak was flavored horrible and so tuff he could barely cut it with the knife. His eggs were so over cooked to the point they were like rubber. The toast wasn’t even toasted. The potato’s were the only edible thing on either of our plates. 15 more minutes go by waiting for our waiter to bring the check. My husband had to go to the front just to ask to get the check. We both left nauseous and hungry after paying $39 for 2 breakfast (before tip). I don’t know how this place got such good reviews, it was so bad I don’t want to go to any restaurant for a while but will never go to that nightmare restaurant again!
