They had been open five minutes and there was a line almost out the door. Old school/retro (not updated) bbq eatery. Nice enough folks. Good enough food. My mate loved the meat (I didn’t). I loved the sides (he didn’t). Just shows you— food is very subjective. I’m a fan of clean and modern— the smoke smell was so dominant here, we had to air out jackets for some time to get the smell out. It’s obvious this is a well loved place in small town Texas. I enjoyed the old school bbq joint vibe here. The staff was all very friendly. I got 1/2 lb brisket, a sausage link and 1 pork rib along with potato salad and sweet tea all for $41. The brisket was dry and flavorless. The sausage was meh. The rib had decent flavor but was very fatty. The potato salad was really good, but just a tad too mustardy. The sweet tea was very good. They just need to move the drink station away from the line that is waiting to order. Was hard to get drinks and refills. My sister just got 1/2 lb sliced and Mac and cheese. She really didn’t comment one way or the other. My buddy got ONE of the beef ribs, potato salad and tea and it was $62!!! He said that it was way too heavy on the rub. For the price, I was not impressed. This was very disappointing because I’ve always heard that this is one of the awesome bbq joints in Texas. By the time that we ordered, the line was at the door. So in a nut shell, above average bbq at top dollar. Pork ribs above average, brisket above average, sausage ok, jalapeño sausage above avg. potatoe salad was good, beans above avg. bbq sauce was sub par. Cold slaw was not good at all, just shredded with no dressing. Long line & wait time. No silverware or plates. No to go boxes. Doubt I will return. Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4

Food is great. A business runs by the 3rd generation and still keeps its tradition since 1940's, amazing. Be aware if you dine at main dining area, the bbq smoke smell is super strong and would get on your clothes for days. Line could be long as they seems server a bit slow. Price is a bit high compared to some other popular bbq places. Overall, it's a great experience. This is definitely worth a drive out too! I'm not sure whether this review will be perceived a credible since I'm a Californian. I've been here two times and there is a lot to love here at what I believe is the grandaddy of Austin BBQ. Brisket is what I call the best out there - not even other more popular / in the city options can compete with Louie Mueller. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Beef rib tasted ok! It’s expensive when you have to order all or nothing @$35lb! Mac & cheese was also just ok and I was not impressed by the bbq sauce.
