Ulu Langat Part I
The story started when few families had a staycation in Ulu Langat. From the onset I had already plotted the lunch at Langat Forest Seafood & Beer Garden, after watching a TV show featuring this restaurant where they rear their own fish.
A more laid-back town compared to the busier Cheras & Ampang, the journey took us about 45 minutes to reach Batu 14.
The restaurant is more like a giant gazebo/hut constructed entirely with steel and zinc structure with nothing but ceiling fan & natural wind to cool down the place. A rather typical Chinese restaurant settings, expect to be blasted with Jacky Cheung's songs while dining.
◾Claypot steamed tilapia - my main purpose coming here was for this dish. Using dang gui 当归 in place of usual ginger to get rid of the fishy smell, I found myself falling for the dish as I love this herb. Fish had no muddy taste to it.
◾Steamed Red Baung 紅尾虎 with black bean sauce - firm & sweet meat coupled with the salty black bean & spiciness from cili padi.
◾German pork knuckle - crispy skin, fall-off-the-bone meat paired with the Mongolian style sauce.
◾Salted egg sotong - I could taste the salted egg yolk sauce in every bite.
◾Sizzling bean curd - no brainer dish for the young ones.
◾Shrimp paste kangkung in claypot - pungent smell yet couldn't get enough of this.
◾Kangkung belacan - classic dish done well.
Most of the dishes were very well-executed and while I don't mind coming back again if I happen to be in this area, they should clean the ceiling as it was a distraction for me.
We headed to our staycation place after that.

We came fairly early for dinner but everything we ordered was sold out, so we had to order these instead. Don’t be fooled by the pictures, the food was actually unpleasant. Everything was extremely overpriced and not worth the value. Fish was served cold but taste was acceptable, marmite ribs were too salty and the Shrimp paste deep fried pork was overfried, dry and under seasoned.
In addition to that, service is extremely bad. The staffs were very rude. Hygiene is also quite bad, their tablecloths smelt bad and had mold on it. Definitely would not recommend anyone to try the food here.
Reasonably priced seafood, recommended, not very busy on a Monday night.

Steam Fish
Had the claypot river catfish, the fish was fresh and cooked nicely tender, served with well seasoned broth. The curry boar meat and pork ribs cooked in lotus leaf were not bad. The lamb ribs was average, the sauce was a tad too sweet.
Overall, the food was average, nothing to boast about.
I liked it. I went to hiking and coming back had nice lunch from here. Food was nice. Restaurant got very nice view. I like the tofu and vegetable salad kind of thing. Feeling refreshed after hiking with such nice lunch. Thy got big parking space in front of restaurant.
Food was really great! Price is reasonable. We had great time with a group of friends there after our sport activity. Awesome natural environment....! Service was good!

Came here for lunch on sat 11.30am. No big crowds, more people came from 12 ish onwards.
I felt like the waiting time was on slight longer side though there were just 3 tables before us (or maybe I was just too hungry). We ordered 3 dishes and it costs RM102 including rice & tea.
1. Signature tofu box @ RM25 - delicious sauce
2. Claypot Kangkung in Shrimp Paste @ RM18 - this was pretty average in fact I was expecting it to be way better
3. 700g steamed Red Paung @ RM49 - the skin is thick and filled with collagen!
The price was bit on the higher side but overall decent food taste with a nice view :)
Overall is a good experience. Staffs are friendly especially the owners uncle n lovely auntie too. The spare ribs on fire is recommended🔥🔥 definitely will b back 👍

Owner rears his own chicken, fish and plant his vegetables. The chicken rice is the best. Must have. The patin fish is big so a bit chewy and i prefer tilapia instead. Prefer plain soya sauce instead of their signature sauce. Taufu is good too. Love the environment with nature around us. Pretty rare sight in Kuala Lumpur as this is place is around 30 min to 45min away from town.
