very relaxing on the inside veranda, wide selection of good 🍻 beers. the cold or hot picada and a good beer: a winning combination for an evening with friends 👌🏽
Situated just off the Calle de los suspiros this choperia has one of the best and innovative styles of beer I have tried. Unique flavors and with the special flavor of the month you are always in for a surprise. The staff is courteous and there is even a live band that plays (Saturday night for sure). It's economic and you can share a fun evening with friends and just chill whilst spending some time in Colonia.
Myself and seven friends had high hopes for this place. After a 3 hour ferry ride from buenos aires we were hungry and really keen to sample a chivito sandwich. We were also fed up with argentina's watery quilmes beer and thought a place with foreign beer taps would be a safe bet.
Unfortunately Mastra was an utter disappointment. Only four out of nine beer taps had beer, and one tap was selling cinnamon & apple flavoured beer which was an abomination.
7 of us ordered a chivito. They arrived at a dying snails pace. Over the course of one hour the 7 sandwiches slowly emerged from the kitchen. The long wait got to the point where several of my friends were considering a refund.
Service was appalling. Beer selection was poor. Staff were unengaged and more interested in playing Manu Chao on YouTube over the speakers.
At least the air con worked, albeit softly. Portion sizes were generous. One of the waitresses was attentive and helped us assemble a table. The flavour of bread was good. The Uruguay flag over the bar was a nice touch.
