John B delivered an absolute divine evening. My friend and I ordered a few different dishes to try, the chef himself brought them out to us. Service was phenomenal, and when it comes to the food… Wow! I must’ve shed a tear or two when tasting that brisket. The plantain was out of this world, and I immediately wanted to go home to try recreate them myself, but not before trying the mac ‘n’ cheese, and what more can I say? It was perfectly seasoned, not too spicy so you couldn’t taste the flavour, - just enough to get a little kick. We sat there for a long while just basking in bliss. Can’t wait to visit again, and again. SO worth it. Thank you! Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Wow. This place is good. The different sauces are so flavorful. The fried chicken is crispy and juicy. Pikliz is crunchy and perfect with the meats. Delightful food and clearly a thoughtful chef.

We had chicken and waffles, and a brisket sandwich with mojo fries and sweet potato fries, and everything was authentic and delicious. When you peek inside you can see the big smoker grill that implies you can trust their BBQ. The chef himself brought out our dishes and explained the sauces: the scotch bonnet sauce is proper hot, there's a coriander sauce, a mango sauce, and my favourite sauce tasted like a piña colada - pineapple and coconut for the sweet potato fries. And of course the BBQ sauce is perfect, tangy and just the right consistency and amount of sweetness. I would have taken a picture of the food, but it was gone before I got the chance lol. Worth a detour if you're in the area. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person kr 200–300 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Shared Platter with Brisket

Epic dinner stop, legit fried chicken sandwich and jerk sweet potato fries. Coleslaw on the sandwich was crispy and flavourful, and the brioche stood out as well. Very friendly, very accommodating. We ordered, 15 minutes later it was on our table at the Apothekarie bar next door (this is one option for "eating in") who provided cold beer. This is a hidden gem! I visited Hamar for a concert and stopped by John B's beforehand, and was served a fried chicken sandwich by the chef/owner that was better than any I have had in the US! The scotch bonnet sauce was so good I had to come back for a bottle the next day, as well as some smoked brisket to bring back home. I will be coming back to Hamar just for the opportunity to eat here again. The pit master is telling his life story through food here. Spicy sauce from his mama, combination of flavors from the Caribbean countries he used to work at, woods he chopped himself...This is not a chef who tries to please the audience but provides honest and decent food. Brisket is cooked to perfection and simply seasoned as it should be. Tender and smoky. Fried chicken comes with two sauces: the spicy one arouses all your senses then the white one soothes the tension. If you are on a road trip like us, go order a cold box to go. They will teach you how to reheat the meat properly.
It is strange to have travelled around the USA and end up having the best brisket ever in the middle of Norway! Superb taste and lovely service. Thank you! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Don’t sleep on this Creole BBQ. I am from the USA and have had BBQ from Texas, California, Georgia, and even Hawaii. This was easily one of the best damn BBQ I ever had. I’ve done a decent amount of food research in Norway and people said cheap food and nice food are almost the same price here so it’s a gamble. I saw the pictures of the meat and felt this was a safe bet. It ended up being some of the best BBQ I’ve ever had. Absolutely worth it for the quality of spices and meat. We got the brisket with mac and cheese and the griot with jerk sweet potato fries. Get the sauces- even the spicy one for the mac n cheese. We met the actual owner/ bbq chef and he told us how his business started after he moved to Norway. It’s a fun little courtyard with gastropub vibes. Indoor seating available at a certain section. Fun corner to explore in Hanmar. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person kr 200–300 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 Recommended dishes Jerk Sweet Potato Fries
