About
Jó Bástya Csárda (Čárda Jó Bástya (Dobrá bašta)) in Šamorín is a must-visit establishment for those looking to explore Slovak-Hungarian cuisine. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming, with traditional Slovak and Hungarian elements adding to the overall charm. The interior design is rustic, featuring old-style furniture and farm implements that give it an authentic feel. Prices are fair, though slightly on the higher side. The restaurant is located on the roadside, making it easy to find. One of the special features of this fine dining spot is its large outdoor seating area, perfect for enjoying a meal on a sunny day. On Saturdays, visitors can enjoy live traditional Hungarian music while they dine. The menu is extensive, available in Slovak, English, and Hungarian, and includes dishes such as chicken stew in paprika sauce, duck breasts with red cabbage and potato pancakes, and goose liver with onions and apples. For drinks, they offer a variety of cocktails, soft drinks, and wines, including a medium-quality Vienna coffee. While service can be hit or miss, the food is consistently delicious and portions are large. Vegetarians may struggle to find suitable options, but meat-lovers will be in heaven. Overall, Jó Bástya Csárda is a great place to experience the flavors of Slovakia and Hungary in a charming environment.

I recently dined at this restaurant and had a mixed experience. While some dishes didn't quite hit the mark, there were some highlights worth mentioning. The garlic soup was extraordinary. On the other hand, potato dumplings with sheep cheese and bacon, unfortunately, didn't blend well together with pork, which was tough and sore. .The steak tartare also left much to be desired, but the bread and fish were satisfactory. On the other hand, the goulash was amazing, bursting with flavours that delighted my taste buds. The liver, however, didn't quite live up to expectations in terms of taste. One aspect that stood out was the exceptional service provided by our waitress. She was attentive, and caring, and went out of her way to ensure we had a pleasant experience. Her personalized approach fits our preferences well, though I understand it might not be everyone's cup of tea. The atmosphere was lovely, with just the right level of music volume, and the staff was genuinely helpful and eager to assist. The cleanliness of the place was also commendable. Overall, while there were some misses with the food, the outstanding service and pleasant ambience made up for it to a large extent. It's a place worth considering, especially for goulash lovers, but keep in mind that taste preferences may vary. Really tasty Slovak-Hungarian cuisine. The food was very well prepared and from quality ingredients. Wish there was a Hungarian csarda like this in the center of Bratislava 🙂 Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
It’s an authentic restaurant with interior in traditional/vernacular style. The food is good, I had a “Wiener” schnitzel (veal escalope) and Halászlé (traditional Hungarian fish soup) and it couldn’t be better. The prices are a bit too high for Slovakian standards.

Superb place. Great to eat at any time. The portions of food are huge. Fresh. Tasty.
Eating in this cozy restaurant been such an amazing experience. We been there for first time and from beginning till the end I could not say any bad word. In general Hungary dishes are yummy and the restaurant definitely know how to prepare them. I had halaszle and perklelt - as appetitive homemade strong ,,palenka,,. Two musicians been playing cardas there! :) Terrific ha? :)If you are somewhere near to the restaurant don’t wait to visit and enjoy atmosphere. :)
This is a traditional looking restaurant, serving traditional Slovak and Hungarian dishes. The prices are not the lowest, but I would recommend to try it out. The best plate I had here was goose liver with onions and apples.
