Dislike: Inefficient layout to get core items like dairy or produce. Seems designed to get customers to spend time wandering all over in an attempt to encourage impulse purchasing from many aisles of packaged, ultra processed foods (candy section is massive footprint).
Neutral: Average large chain grocery store prices. That is, no notable savings by shopping here.
Liked: Large selection including specialty items, but it's not worth the time it takes walking all over to find them.
I shop here and pay a premium for quality goods. I’m ok with paying a higher price when I receive quality goods. After purchasing fresh onions and cutting into them the same day, the result is onions degrading from the inside (see picture) but appear to look good from the outside.
I’ll continue to shop here for their wonderful selection but will not buy anymore produce for fear of poor quality control.
Hy-Vee is a very high quality grocery store. They have a very wide selection of groceries and other goods, even some clothing including children's clothes. They have great advertised specials. Some of their everyday prices are a little high, but that's true in most any grocery store. The quality of their baked goods, produce, fresh meats and seafood, are excellent. Service is top grade and if you ask an employee where can I find something? They not only tell you the row, but they usually take you right to that row and point out the item. They also have a great deli already prepared foods ready to eat there or take out. I especially like their already prepared Chinese food offerings. They also have sushi, all sorts of American prepared foods, and so forth.
I've been to many Hy-Vee's and this one was similar to others I've been to: quality items, wide selections, and friendly service. The only issue I had was that my friend promised me this Hy-Vee had shoes. We searched for a long while and they were nowhere to be found. I don't fault this location for not living up to that standard. I fault my friend instead for putting unfair expectations on it. 5 stars from me!
If you need anything don't call the deli. I was specifically told that the catering manager was not in today and they could not get me a receipt. I called the front again to ask if there was anyone that could help me and she said yeah let me see if the catering manager is available! Jen is awesome! She got me what I needed without hesitation! 5 stars to Jen. 1 star to the deli for telling me she wasn't there and they couldn't help me. 😁
I really like this store because it’s so close to where I live and is always clean.
The prices can be a little high and sometimes items are just forever out of stock, like distilled water.
My main complaint that I’ve been wanting to say something about is that they don’t stock paper bags at the self checkouts.
Please, for the love that is everything, stock some darn paper bags at the self checkouts. Stock stacks of them, please. I love using self checkout but I hate using plastic bags when there are paper ones to use.
Meh. Over-priced place trying hard to strive for a high quality feel. Store has a very awkward layout which induces a cluttered, unorganized feeling. Unfriendly employees. Limited selection on choices. Doesn't have multiple brands to provide more choices.
"Price Declined" ads for items are underwhelming. Small bakery department. Nothing special about this place except for high prices.
I wish the store was arranged a little more practically, but all of the food made to order around the edges of the store are certainly appreciated. The butcher area is especially wonderful. Prices are slightly higher than Cub Foods, but you would expect that. And you can find deals here. I do appreciate all the self checkout kiosks.
